Need ideas to spruce up Main Room and inherited vintage furniture
Comments (7)I would replace the fabric on the seats, add a rug to ground your table/chairs, and add draperies. You also have a lot of stuff in the room. I'd simplify - is it possible to relocate the bookshelf, remove the items hanging above it, take the shelf off the wall, and remove the items from the top of your china hutch?...See MoreHelp! Comments (15)Rooms are what they are for the most part. You can't just make them something else. A garage can't turn into a bathroom. A family room can't magically turn into a bedroom. You're better off keeping the room as it was intended to be. In your case, the only things I can see that space being are a formal living room or a piano room/lounge extended in from the entry way. A library room makes no sense. You're not going to welcome someone into your home and offer them a book to read. But you should welcome someone in and offer them a nice seating area, a drink, and listen to some music before you work way into a nice meal in the dining room. A house floor plan should naturally progress as your relationship and time spent with the person does. This is why bedrooms should not be in the front of a home....See MoreNeed help with sprucing up a living room!
Comments (7)I would not put a rug under the dining table. A rug under the dining table would mean you would have more cleanup, unless everyone in your family or everyone coming over is a neat freak. A rug under a dining room table at my place would last a very short time. Another problem with a rug under the dining room table is that it would chop the room up more. Ideally, the room goal should be unification and cohesiveness. When someone says they're trying to make a place more lively, that to me means a lot more color. I'm seeing mostly lights and darks. Please specify what you mean when you say more lively, so we know exactly what you mean. I would add a lot of bright red accents in accessories, but that's me. Currently I see a lot of dark and light. Depending on the light, the only medium tones I see are in the couch, the screen, and the dining table. You may want to find an online place to do your redecorating so you can see what it will look like before you do anything. Perhaps adding more mid tones and texture will liven up this space. Certain colors will show up dark - like bright red, royal blue, forest green. Light to median gray will show up as a mid tone. Your tan will show up as a mid tone. Your navy-green will show up as a dark color. Just be aware of that as you go forward. If you are interested in mobiles, that will add color and movement (and a conversation piece) to your space. Just be sure to put it somewhere where people won't bump their heads....See MoreNeed advice on how to decorate living room/dinning room space
Comments (3)I would like to begin saying that I love the minimalist aesthetic you have. I’m a less is more person and I don’t like random artwork for the sake of filling walls. With that said, I’d like to see more color warmth on the walls. The buttery white is making it too stark. Have you considered painting? I would try the sectional against the buffet wall to free up the window, and add your teal accents into the window treatment. Eliminate the glass table or move it between the chairs. Add more unique floor lamp lighting near the couch. The buffet can then be moved to the kitchen wall....See MoreRelated Professionals
