Need help picking BM paint colors!!
Comments (3)Thank you oilpainter....so your son re-painted the kitchen sage green? Or did he re-paint the dining room? Which card was he picking the green color from? Yes I have heard of that as well, using differnt values off of the same card for open floor plans and using different punches of accent colors in each room to add interest. My sister in law did this in her house. She has a center hall colonial, just like us, and she used different values of a taupey brown color all throughout the house. In the dining room she put a darker value of the taupey color above her chair rail and below the chair rail used a dark navy blue. In her sitting room she has the taupey color above the chair rail, with a deep dark maroonish color under the chair rail. So all the rooms seem unified and timeless but each room as its own distinct look with the accent color below the chair rail and in her drapes and furnishings....See MoreWaaa! Color help! I picked Paint but should have picked Stain!
Comments (2)I hate stain. (don't tell anyone I said that) If Cabot is a product option for you, that's a good thing. Lowe's sells sample pots - at least all the Lowe's I know of sell sample pots of Cabot's stain colors. You can mix stain colors easier than you can mix paint colors. The trick is to keep the ratios even if at all possible. Painter may have a stroke if you end up with a custom mixed stain color. That's okay, he'll survive. Just remind him that that's what those five gallon buckets are for. Buy samples. Test colors. Hopefully one straight out of the can will work for you 'cuz that would definitely be the eaiser option. If you have the option of Sherwin Williams, their WoodScapes (solid or semi-transparent) is another really good exterior stain choice IMO. Many colors to choose from, varies a lil from the BenM solid stain palette. Good luck! :D Here is a link that might be useful: Cabot Solid Stain Sample Colors...See MorePlease Help! Comments (13)annz - Thanks for your reply! Ideally I'd like more time to choose. I took Forever to pick the wall colors, and drove DH up a wall (I'm surprised we're still married - ha ha!). This is my way of sort of making it up to him, lol. Although Benjamin Moore has some no voc paints that we can get locally, we choose American Pride b/c it's supposed to be non toxic (we have a baby and are renovating the entire house - which we've yet to move into, so I'm trying to be as green and non toxic as possible). sueb20 - Thank you for your suggestions! Yes, I agree that we should paint the doors and trim the same color. (Thanks for setting me straight!) And, thank goodness that the ceiling doesn't need to match the trim exactly. Atrium White and Decorators White are very pretty, but the lighting in our home was not doing them justice. And so, the winner is - Simply White! It looks white, without any gray or blue tint to it. And I like how it has a touch of warmth - as most of our colors are warm, and we have a lot of northern light. It's not my favorite white for our one Beacon Gray bathroom, but it will still look nice. As for the bedroom that will have Mascarpone on the bottom - I'm still a little concerned there b/c Simply White is very close in color and doesn't "pop" like a cooler white would, but hopefully the semi gloss sheen will help with the contrast a bit. We'll see... Overall though, I think Simply White will work really great in our home, and I'm excited to see everything painted! Thank you all again for your replies! You're the best!! :)...See MoreHelp me pick house colors. Please help me pick house colors!
