Indoor cat palm help

I have a cat Palm that I misted with water this morning as always, and there appears to be a spider webbing between the leaves of one of the fronds, noticeable because of the spray. I'm sure it wasn't there yesterday. Also, the tips of the fronds are chewed off (not by my cats). Any suggestion of what is causing this? Thanks.

I am the poster. When the spray dried up, I noticed many tiny bugs or mites infesting the whole plant. Didn't want it to spread to my other plants so I threw it out. Didn't seem healthy for some weeks or months.

Sounds like Spider Mites. If they've been on your plant indoors for that long they're probably already on your other plants. They like dry conditions which are readily found indoors. People often get rid of them by wiping the plants down with soapy water. You need to do it often to stop numbers from building up. You can also use miticides which get rid of them if you're not opposed to using chemicals. But you need check all your plants ASAP.

My cats have bit a few leaves off of my Chamaedorea Cataractarum and are just fine weeks later. So, I wouldn't worry about it. If you want a better indoor palm though, just look for Chamaedorea Elegans. It's definitely NOT toxic to cats. My cats totally destroyed a couple fronds on mine and are just fine months later. So is the plant, but if you're a beauty freak like me, I'd either train the cats to leave the palms alone, or keep them away. Cheers! A fellow gardener

Hey guys Thanks for the advice. Several things are working against us though... First, I had divided them up - and there were babies in each clump, and they came apart pretty easy, either way - so my guess is both were planted in clumps, to begin with. Second, Size - Different growing conditions, etc - radical variance in size - And to begin with, all of mine were approx the same size - from several sources, so age vs size is indeterminable. Are there any actual physical characteristics of , say, a single plant, of each? Thanks

Right now it looks like a sort of mold or fungus on the stems, does it rub or scratch off? Could you post a picture of the other infected palm? Is it kind of powdery? This MAY be a sort of sooty mold, but I need further information. http://www.palmtreepassion.com/palm-tree-fungal-disease.html#.VrfNAFUrKVM The above link shows in the last example, a type of sooty mold. "Parlor Palm" ( AKA Chaemadorea Elegans) . It's called that because it was popular in the Victorian era for dimly lit parlors. It needs very little light. It's not toxic to cats but they like to nibble on the leaves. It grows slowly so it doesn't require a large pot unlike "Majesty Palms" and other big plants. After a year or so or grows in to a very nice, tropical looking plant about 2 feet tall. The "Cast Iron Plant" is another low light plant that isn't toxic to cats, but you asked for palms.

Thank you. Unfortunately I already disposed of it because I was afraid they would spread. This palm was a distance away from other plants, so hopefully all is not lost. Thanks again.
