Leather couch recommendations
Comments (10)I share your frustrations with furniture-buying! My husband and I have been looking for a few months now, and since I'm only about 5' 4", I don't like the deep seats of many of the sofas out there. That included the H&M, unfortunately! The best leather sofa that I got to actually sit on was a Legacy Leather, something like the Austin style, but I'm not positive: at any rate, it is an 89" long sofa and a bit bulky for the size of my family room. The seating, however, is firm but very solid and comfortable! It's the kind of sofa that I could just sit and sit in! This particular one is on a great floor-model sale right now (Orlando area), but DH wasn't convinced. Legacy is made in Canada, and I don't know the source of their leathers. We tried the B-Y 84" Sheffield sofa, but it is only in third place behind the Lee Industries sofa that I think I'll buy (possibly a 2 cushion, 78" slipcover sofa with the down package seating). Because both my husband and I have our back issues, we've been specifically looking for lumbar support, as well as seating that's not too low, and a seat that isn't so deep that one tends to sit on one's tailbone in a slouch to be able to lean against the back. I'm having someone come in to help me figure out what size sofa and recliners I can get into my FR so I don't make some expensive mistakes. In addition to the Lee sofa, we're also considering the BY Fischer High-Leg Lounger which has just the tiniest bit more lumbar support for us than the H&M Miller Lounger. I am disappointed that we probably won't be getting any H&M furniture: I hear the company builds a superb product. All of this comfort stuff is so subjective! Good luck, and keep reading here on various brands, etc. It's hard work. And I'm glad to see that dcollie is back posting, because I learned so much from his lengthy and informative posts. w...See MoreNeed some advise on our leather couch...repair or buy new?
Comments (2)When I do frame repairs, I remove and replace, build up, or reinforce the parts of the frame that are broken. There is really no standard answer as it depends upon what is broken, how it is broken, and whether or not it can be easily removed. I usually try for "betterment" by replacing engineered wood with solid wood, weak woods with stronger ones, or convert simple planks into I-beams. It's doubtful they will rebuild the whole frame as this will involve re-upholstery and it would be cheaper to send you a new one....See MoreI impulse-bought a new sofa - now what? + leather care questions
Comments (4)Pretty sofa! And that is a small room. I'm sorry I can't offer any advice on layout. I struggle with that myself. I'm definitely challenged in the decorating department. I'm sure others will help you out. As far as cleaning your leather, there are many online resources that can help you. First of all you need to know what grade of leather you have. Full grain would be the top of the line, with varying grades down to bicast leather. Have you tried calling this company you linked to see what grade this is? Is there a tag on the furniture? I have had a full grain leather sofa, love seat. chair, and ottoman for about 20 years and it looks better now than when I bought it. (yeah, I know...matchey-matchey is a no-no) They say you shouldn't have full grain with children, but we have pets and grandchildren, and we have not been especially careful with it. Our leather furniture is not shiney, and is super soft. LOVE IT! The most comfortable seating ever! I clean with mild soap and water if something gets spilled, and occasionally rub it down with saddle soap. Don't know if that's an approved cleaning method, but it looks great after all these years. Comments (14)when i was home from school (a number of years ago!) i worked at a deli. i sliced stuff all day and well into the evening. never had an accident as i was absolutely certain i wanted to keep all my fingers in tact. that said, the pro models are as safe as they come (for something meant to slice through a 20 lb slab o' beef like a sheet of paper) so they are HEAVY. they don't move around at all or jiggle. they're not really meant to be moved around a lot so i'm not so sure you'll be able to find a true professional slicer that will be convenient for home use. i wish i could give you more specific info on models, but i never really considered bringing one home with me! will you let us know what you come up with?? good luck!...See MoreAndrea Pedra
