If TV is going above the console, I wouldn't want it to be the first thing seen upon entering. I think welcoming seating is a better visual when guests arrive.

A large piece of art, up to 75% of the console's width, would be striking.

Hi decoenthusiaste, we are learning towards putting a painting there. Having a hard time since console is 8ft long. Going nuts thinking of what color hues the painting should be so that not to be overpowered by the dark table.

Really nice large space with lots of potential.

With low ceilings, having more than one accent wall dark or bold could visually shrink the space.

NOT a fan of the pendant "spotlight" aimed at the console wall -- whether or not you add art to the wall. Better to NOT have that light aimed at a tv. As to art: Better to put the light for art on the wall above the art if it cannot be recessed into the ceiling. If the overhead pendant spotlight is centered in that ceiling space, consider replacing it with a modest sized modern ceiling fan with a single centered LED light fixture.

IF you decide to add a tv above the console, you might want a sofa facing it. If you add a sofa about the same width as the console facing the console with an interesting sofa table/desk behind it and/or other welcoming furnishings between the back of the sofa and the entry door, that console is not likely to be as much the "center of attention" as you might fear.

If this console has been painted black (as it appears to have been), and if it is not going to be used to set or hang a huge black tv above it but art instead, then consider repainting it a lighter color rather than have a unit that dark (almost foreboding looking) set against a light colored wall be the first thing "spotlighted" as the room is entered. After all, "you never get a second chance to make a first impression."

If that console is the best place for your tv, put it there. If you want to leave the console black, then, rather than having all that black against a light colored wall, do consider painting the wall behind the console as an accent wall:

If you want to minimize that wall rather than make it the center of attention, then painting the wall a medium to dark gray or blue color could do that. If however, you are a fan of bold colors and design, then consider painting that wall behind the console a cobalt blue or emerald green or deep wine red.

If you were to wrap that square pillar with shallow wood shelves with wood finish in front of a mirrored back with mostly glass front doors on two sides and on the other two (traffic) sides (where you don't want to increase the size of the pillar) add paneling with matching wood, you could use one side as a "china " cabinet and the other for a curio cabinet (depending upon what room the shelving faces).

@dsb0423, please tell me the dimension of your room or you can also post your floorplan to understand the space better. along with this if you can also answer a few questings to understand your requirements in a better way.

1) how many numbers of seating you want to plan for?

2) Do you have a floating sofa or sectional sofa in mind?

3) Any specific brands you have in mind for furniture? this will help us suggest you from that particular brand.

4) What other spaces you are planning along with this foyer and living room?

5) What are the other furniture items you are planning to purchase?

thanks for all the great inputs! Chances are where going to put a painting for now above the console. We plan to put an L shape sofa facing the wall with a side table on the door side. Haven’t figured out yet what to do with the space on the left with the big windows and on the right.
I like the idea on the pilar, would you by any chance have a picture for reference?

1. Maybe 6-8
2. Open to both, but leaning to sectional
3. No brand, but don’t want to break the bank
4. The spaces left and right of the living room, hope this makes sense from the floor plan
5. Right now we only have the console and a 6 seater rectangular table , so will need sofa, decor, etc

I would move that TV console somewhere else and go check out Beasta from Ikea you can configure with storage TV display the ideas are limitless IMO in a condo there is never enough storage so something like this would be good and look nice when you enter the space

dsb - console looks like a dresser for a bedroom. Can it be moved to another room? It sucks up an awful lot of light and is not "interesting" imho. Maybe something modern, or a statement antique piece that reflects your style.

Hi Ashtonic, the media console used to be in a bedroom. But it was taking up to much space. The living room is the only place we can put it that seems big enough for it. I have the same sentiments as you regarding it sucking up the light. Looking for was to decorate it to lessen that effect. I’m attaching another pic. It’s actually dark brown.

Have you thought about painting it? Here is a credenza by Jonathan Adler that you could use as inspiration.
