Comments (29)jerzeegirl, So *this* is where this post was all this time. I went home and checked on the incredible flatness of the mattress but then I couldn't recall where this thread was. Bottom line, I didn't pull out the level afterall because when I went home, I pulled back the comforter and did not need any measure to tell me that the highest point of the bed is that taping on the seam thing that the mattress has at each of its - well seams! The mattress part is perfectly perfectly flat. Do make sure to talk to someone to find out what the 3 mattresses are. The one I got is the firmest (and thinnest) one. Both sides are the same. The intermediate firmness and the softest are two sides of the same mattress. All three feel quite different so its important to be sure to try all three coz you may reject 'em if you don't know that 1 mattress can give you two different firmness supports. I had completely eliminated the Prima (I think) because of the incredible softness of the softest which was too much for me. The sales lady told me then to try the different side of the same bed for the firmer one and compare *that* to the Versa (the firmest, I think). That was a more equitable comparison even though we still eventually chose the Versa. Happy mattress testing....See MoreHow do you make up a king sized bed?
Comments (30)I'm also a two king pillows with cases and two king pillows with shams user. Everything is white cotton or white matelasse, with a solid yellow quilt folded across the bottom. Our walls are yellow and the bed is against the wall. We have no headboard or footboard. Kitty cat sleeps on the yellow quilt every night. I also relate to your disappointment! I literally cried when my bed was delivered and set up, and called my sister on the phone I was so beside myself! I thought it looked so big and awkward and awful. I concluded I'd made one big honkin' mistake, and couldn't imagine *how* I could make such a thing actually look attractive. A little over six years later now, and I regard our king-sized bed as one of the best purchases we've ever made! Within a few months of living with it and adjusting my eye to it, I loved it, both in terms of how it looked in the room and how it functioned as a wonderful, dreamy place to sleep! I hope you find yourself with a transformed perspective too, Sonicmom....See MoreLatex Mattress Advice
Comments (21)Actually, the 'green' aspects are lovely, but I'm most anxious to find a comfortable mattress that doesn't sag after a month or two, as has been the case with our last two innersprings. Each ran almost $3K, for a pair of XL Twins that we use as a King. We have had a pair of two-sided mattresses since our marriage over fifty years ago. We've been able to flip them ourselves, without hiring a strongman. Now we are getting too old for any flipping, but would like to have the option to buy separately controlled adjustable frames in the future. I presume you can 'fold' latex without damaging the mattress? Olychic -- Thanks for reminding me of how long your latex mattress has served you. (Please hire someone to flip it before *it* outasts *you*.) From what I've read, I think a layered latex might work for us -- 'impure' on the bottom; 'pure-er' on the top layer. Seems there is no more 100% talalay anyway. I wonder how these mattresses fell out of favor, or why they are making such a comeback. They are less expensive than most innersprings. A labor thing?...See MoreShow me your king sized bed in smaller room
Comments (14)My husband and I have had a queen bed for 15 years, we're just finding it small with the two cats and his back bothers him. Just askin' ... if his back bothers him, do you need a new mattress more than you need a larger bed? We slept on an old king-sized bed that a relative gave us for YEARS, and it "grew old" so slowly that we really hadn't realized just how bad it had become ... but we noted that when we went to a hotel, we slept SO MUCH BETTER. We got a fantastic mattress for each other for Christmas one year, and it's the best money we ever spent. I still lie down every night and think, "Ahhhhh." I've been eyeing this particular King bed. Years ago I had a bed with drawers underneath. It was an okay bed ... but consider: - With such narrow room, opening these drawers will be difficult. You may not be able to pull them out all the way. - My drawers went "all the way to the headboard", so I had to move the nightstand to open the first drawers ... as a result, I stored Christmas decorations in them. Not ideal. but it's the only one I could find with pictures http://www.cedarandrush.com/2019/03/king-size-bed-small-bedroom.html This room is lovely, but let's analyze what's making it work: - The two large windows and light walls give the feeling of a larger space. Seriously, those windows MAKE the room; the same space with windows on only one wall would feel much smaller /closed in. - The wall-mounted lamps are necessary ... otherwise you'd have no nightstand space at all. You could do this style lamp, or you could have hanging pendants. - Those nightstands are seriously tiny. What do you have on your nightstands now? I bet you have an alarm clock, a phone charger, a book or two, a tube of lotion, maybe some jewelry in a bitty tray ... this picture contains none of those things; it's staged nicely, but consider what you'd really keep on the nightstand. - Note that this bed has no footboard. Though I love footboards, they don't work well in a small bedroom. IMO one raised up with drawers under it will look huge . Is the bed you're considering "tall"? That will make a difference in the look of the room. Do you have a large enough closet to have an organizer put in? That made all the difference in making this work. So true. Consider everything you'd need to store: not just clothes, but bed linens, etc. Split king sheets are stupid expensive Just a note: King bed linens are more expensive than smaller beds ... I mean, the difference is larger than can really be justified by that bit more of fabric. This isn't a huge issue because you probably don't buy new linens all that often ... but be prepared for a bit of sticker shock. Last thoughts: - In our old house we had a king in a 13' wide bedroom ... it was about the smallest you could have and really say, "A king fits nicely here". Yes, you could squeeze a king in ... but are you okay with squeezing through a pretty small walkway on each side? - I'm a big fan of "try before you buy". Have you stayed in a king-sized bed in a hotel lately? I suggest you go somewhere for the weekend and see if a king-bed really solves the problems you've described. - I used to appreciate the king when our kids were small and still crawled into bed with us, but I'd gladly go back to a queen now. It's plenty big for my husband and I. - King-sized beds are more trouble to make up ... you can't reach across them easily....See Morebpath
