Hand Wash Wedding Dress Using Oxi-Clean
Comments (3)When I read about people spending a great deal of money, or working so hard to clean a wedding gown, I have to tell my story. After our wedding, I had my dress cleaned and put into a "Heritage Box". I stored it in our basement. A few years later, my then four year old son and a few friends were playing in our basement. I heard this shrieking laughter coming from downstairs, so thought I better check to see what they were up to. When I walked into the room they were in, I gasped when I saw they had found my wedding gown, and laid it on the tile floor, and were using it as a slip n slide! They all stopped and looked at me, waiting, I'm sure, for an explosion. All I could do was laugh! I only have boys, so I knew the dress would never be used again, but the story has given many a good laugh over the years! Good luck with the washing--I know a woman in our community who makes wedding gowns, and she always recommends washing them....See MoreHelp me recreate this room
Comments (49)It's important to make it work, of course, and I know nothing about the engineering, but the specs are for a certain square footage of opening, and we met that and a bit more with our horizontal grills. Three of them at 3x14 inches, I think, gave a bit more square footage than a standard one and pulled air in from different points (which an ignorant person likes to think is good). In any case, since the bottom shelf rests on the vertical front board, the area behind is all open space. Our HVAC guy thought it was fine. As opposed to my insistence on not putting the meter smack in the middle of the most important living room wall where it'd give the most accurate readings. With all our windows, no other wall in the entire house would do for him. Uhuh. (Now I know why so many homes, especially older ones, have the control on the only wall long enough for a sofa.) I told him we'd just have to learn to adjust for inaccurate readings. He wasn't happy, but we did and we are. Summer and winter it reads 1-3 degrees off actual temperature, depending on how extreme the weather is. Have fun with your room. It's going to look really nice....See Moreneed help - making silk wedding dress
Comments (8)I was going to say the same thing. I have a couple of books about sewing wedding dresses and sewing with silk. In one of those books I read that seams sewn on the straight of grain are more susceptible to puckering than those on the bias. It suggests to add just a bit to the bottom hem to gradually bring the edge of the seam out to a slight angle. This puts a little bias in the seam for pucker-free stitching and the additional width at the bottom will not be noticeable. It also suggests "taut sewing where you hold the fabric taut as you sew and a shorter stitch length (10 to 15 stitches per inch). Good luck to you and you are a good friend to help out. Comments (59)If anyone is still following this thread, can I ask one more favor? Background: I am definitely going with the long floral dress. It goes to the floor on me and I will wear black pumps. But here's the favor-- I need a bag. I cannot stand another minute looking on Amazon (Prime as I need it this week) and I saw nothing I liked at Lord & Taylor. I would like a pop of color in a bag. I am drawn to pink. I would love a velvet bag (wedding is just barely in September.) Yes/ no to pink? If I go black then I am all set with several that I already own. My hair will be up, and I am wearing drop pearl earrings with a teeny bit of rhinestone bling. They are very simple. Based on advice here, I will most likely forgo any necklace (no pearls, I promise!) Any bag suggestions that will get here this week? It doesn't have to be great quality as I won't have many more occasions to use it. Thanks! Jo...See Moreterezosa / terriks
