I agree that the master bath is awkward. It's small and maze-like, and so many doors (and pocket doors in the wrong places). I think you'll end up pulling your elbows in (people who've been in prison do that, you know, even after they're released from prison) as you walk through. And I agree with you: Sometimes the closet-in-bathroom works, but this isn't one of those cases. One reason is that the closet door and the shower are just too close together. Switch the closet and bathroom /simplify the bath layout so it fits better in the available space -- this closet is slightly larger -- the loser here is the sink; to keep the toilet under the window, the sink has to shrink -- but the circulation between the rooms is greatly improved, and you'll have a great sound barrier between the bedroom and bathroom: Switch the closet and bathroom /reduce the closet a bit so you can still have the large vanity and the toilet is neatly tucked back in a corner -- you're gaining a linen closet IN the bathroom (or that could be turned to the closet as a deep storage spot for out-of-season boxes, suitcases, whatever) -- or you could have a truly massive shower --- of course, you've lost some closet space here; the question is, was it useful closet space? You'd still have roughly 7' of storage down each side:

This is kind of a "walk in but then don't move" closet. That's OK - I have one of those too.....mine is a touch wider (5.5'), but shorter. I agree that putting a hanging rack against the long wall will leave you with just under 3' of space between the racks and the wall (with the doorway), but that's still enough to stand there and choose what you're looking for; I know, because I've been doing exactly that for 12 years. However, it means you can't really put any storage furniture along the wall with the doorway.......So now you've got the back wall for hanging racks (you can do multi levels), and a very small amount of depth for shelves or a set of drawers at each short end. If you make the shelves on the short sides too deep (even where it won't bump into the doorway), it will conflict with the hanging clothes - either you won't be able to get to the shelves, or you wont' be able to get to the hanging things. (Of course, you could use a corner under a hanging rack for seasonal storage, only getting in there two or three times a year to switch out swimsuits and sandals for sweaters and thermal underwear.) You can still get creative with some of the space along the wall with the archway, using it for things that really have no depth to storing them -- a rack for belts or scarves, for instance, or maybe hanging jewelry storage. Also, remember to think about YOUR (collective) personal clothing storage needs, which aren't the same for everyone. I have very little need for full-length hanging space, for instance, as I wear almost no dresses. That means I can use half-height hanging space, and still have space for drawers and/or shelves beneath them......all my jeans and casual pants hanging over a chest of drawers.

I still like no. 1 better but before you go ahead with this dimension of shower, for precautions, I would shop for vanities just to make sure you can find one that size. Also, for me, an 18x32 vanity would be too small. It may not for you but I suggest that you compare what you have right now and see if you would be satisfied with a vanity that size. The drawers might be very narrow. All of that may work for you but it does not hurt to check before you commit. If you find the vanity too small or you can't find any of that size, you might have to change the angle of the shower. You can also have a custom made vanity, but also check if you can find a sink the right size for that vanity. Also, if you find you have not enough storage you may want the cabinet I suggested in the bottom left corner. In that case, I would put a sliding door in the middle of the bathroom (not to the left. Your plan as you have it now might well work but there are precautions worth to checking before committing.

The bathroom is spread out so much ... by simplifying that space, you can get the two separate doors you want, enlarge the closet so you have ample space for the make-up area in the closet. Consider: - The tub and shower work well side-by-side because they're the same depth. - The vanity would be about 8' long, so you could arrange it in multiple ways ... I'd put in a narrow linen tower or closet. - The toilet tucks in behind the vanity ... possibly behind a pony wall, which is so much more functional than the toilet being smashed into a closet. - You have a window as a sight line dead-ahead from the door. - With the bathroom more compact, the closet is enlarged, and the bedroom door now has space to "park" against the wall without covering the closet door. - I placed the make-up area straight ahead of the closet door ... presumably you'll have a large mirror here, and it'll make for a bright sight line upon entering the closet. Since this is placed against the bathroom wall, you could have a small sink here without big expense. - This closet is large and wide, and you could arrange the hanging rods /drawers in any number of ways ... and with all this width, you could have a seating ottoman (with storage inside) in the middle of the closet.
