It;s Fuchsia Time
Comments (14)Deannart you have some lovely, well grown Fuchsias, you have the magic touch. Fuchsias have been one of my passions for many years, back in the 80's I had approximately 350 varieties in my collection. This is the first year I haven't grown any at all. Our mail order sources in Canada have dried up and even in the garden centers it's hit and miss if they are labeled with the right name. Claire de Lune was one of my favorites, but I really like the WALZ varieties like WALZ Haarp and WALZ Polka, then the triphyllas, especially Mantilla and Trumpeter both hanging basket varieties. At this stage of the game I'd still like to grow a few if I could find some of the nicer varieties locally. Storing 60 hanging basket varieties plus all the uprights was getting to be too much work, the greenhouse was so jam packed I could hardly move in it. If I could just keep it down to a dozen favorites I'd still have them but you know how it goes with addictions, all it takes is one and you're off and running again LOL. Talking about Winston Churchill, that is one variety no matter what I tried wouldn't winter for me. Then there's the flat faced types like Thamar, it looks like a little pansy and then the novelty types like Pussycat. Being it was getting so hard to find other than to old standbys I didn't have the room to grow mine into decent specimens just keep 4" pots going so as not to lose the variety. IMHO, the one exception in the old standbys, Swingtime is still the best red and whites ever. Hopefully Fuchsias will come back in favor soon, before some of these beautiful varieties are lost to us forever. Annette...See Moreclotheswise what do you stow away, give away, and why
Comments (6)For clothing we try to put one item away for donations per every new item bought. I usually give my nicer clothes to a divorced gal with kids down the road. She isnâÂÂt exactly poor but there is not much money left for her after bills and kids. SheâÂÂs great because she takes only what is needed and passes the rest on to others in need or makes a donation to her church. The gal usually leaves a note in my mail box stating where the rest went and a thank you. Due to my casual lifestyle my dressy clothes have little wear but do not wear well on my changing figure. I donâÂÂt want to keep them so long as to become outdated and where they are of no use to someone else. My husband donates his clothing to a few different charities or a particular individual. Sometimes we do a drop off at goodwill. A few times I left a big bundle out near the road with a sign that says âÂÂtake meâÂÂ. I do this on a day when there are several Guatemalan lawn maintenance people next door. There are always a few items I have a hard time letting go of though⦠but I must as I am moving. I will never sell clothes in a garage sale again; last time (several years ago) I was ripped off with a do you have a bag trick. I will give but you canâÂÂt take!...See Moreit’s the first time I see soil cover in mole, something wrong ?
Comments (12)This has already been mentioned, but I think it’s important to say it again;). These guys are VERY cold hardy. They can go down to -34C and I wouldn’t be surprised if they could survive lower temps knowing the areas where these naturally flourish. They are outside plants and I’m fairly certain it’s going to be a major struggle growing inside. It’s like when people try to grow Sempervivum inside. I have yet to see a beautifully grown Sempervivum inside;). These guys do terrible in the heat and will just fall apart. Hopefully there’s somewhere you can put this outside away from lots of humidity and rain. Under an eave of a home would work....See MoreIt’s been a long time.... let’s see your stash.
Comments (20)lafdr, Yes. Guilty! Hoarder of laundry products. I can't speak for the others, but it's my quirky little pleasure for some odd reason. My supply makes me happy :) My goal, is to get down to armjim's supply, if I could ever not have to try out the next one, the better one, the new one. I could easily (and happily) live with just Tide powder, stpp, oxygen bleach, Borax and dryer sheets (I don't use liquid fabric softener). Not pictured in my photo above is my supply of backup powder detergent in case of powdergeddon, which are extras of my usual powders like Tide, ALL, Mexican Ariel. There's been talk of manufacturers wanting to discontinue with powder detergent and give us only liquids to use. I could not imagine not having my powder detergents anymore. This possibility fuels powder hoarding....See Morekathyg_in_mi
