Comments (16)I'd like to add to what Kimmsr said about the asthma. I know a guy that ended up in the hospital because of leaf smoke that triggered an asthma attack. Several studies have been made on the effects of smoke in general on people with lung problems other than asthma. Particularly those with COPD. Burning leaves in a heavily populated area is just plain disrespectful of anyone that could be suffering from lung problems. Last year, due to the drought, a lot more poison ivy ended up in leaf litter. I had to visit the Immediate Care Center for a serious poison ivy reaction that was unrelated to burning leaves or anything. It was from felling a dying tree that was covered in it. But, the point is that they assumed that I had been burning leaves because they had so many others in there that had done so with poison ivy in the piles and with it on wood that still had bark with pieces of vine and the smoke covered them with tiny particles of the oils. They didn't even ask. They just looked at me and said, "Ah, you've been burning leaves, too." Burning leaves is an incredibly stupid risk to be taking and if someone caused a child to end up in the ER, let alone another adult, I'm sure they would be thinking it was pretty stupid, too. It just sucks that it takes something horrible to make people think for just a moment....See MoreWhen looking to buy a POH, do you ask.....
Comments (36)I will be selling soon FSBO and will be asked by buyers why we are selling. I want to be honest but the answer seems like it might be a turn off to a buyer. We never lived in the home and got it as an investment. Our plan was to fix it up and rent it for a couple years while the market appreciated, then sell it. Well, now that couple years is up and now we are ready to sell, and it is all fixed up now (complete remodel). Home is vacant. We will be making a good amount of profit, though it will be offerred at the lower end of the comps(a good price that should move it fast, without giving it away and without pricing too high.) So when the seller asks "why are you selling", what do I say?...See MoreShow me your glass cabinets...what do they look like when in use
Comments (25)We decided to put some glass-fronted cabinets in the kitchen, but not right near the stove. Normally I keep a lot of utilitarian things near the stove and my prettier things, such as handmade pottery dishes and pretty glassware, are on another wall / hutch-style area. The things in the glass-fronted cabinets are still utilitarian because we use them almost everyday, but they are pretty, so I like putting them in a glass cab. Since a stove area is already a busy work zone, my personal opinion, for me, is that I would not like my glass-front cabs to be there. It's already a busy work zone, and adding glass cabs would make it more busy visually. As far as lighting. I wanted lighting in the glass cabinets, but if you have solid shelves with an LED light shining down form the top, the light is blocked by the uppermost shelf and doesn't illuminate all the way down. If you have glass shelves, you see the greenish edge of the glass (and I personally don't care for that). So what we came up with was to create a wooden "frame" in the dimensions of a regular shelf and then the glass company supplied the glass inserts for that. So when I am looking at the glass-fronted cabinet I am not looking at a raw/green/glass edge (I am looking at a wooden edge), and the light goes all the way down. Also, the glass fronts have no dividers, so I can adjust the shelves however I want and don't have to worry about lining up the shelves with any dividers....See Morelooking at possibly buying a 1972 house. what to look for?
Comments (72)Its finally over. We closed the deal! Getting through the financing was pretty stressful once covid19 broke out but we got through it. So, the underground room. I cut the door open last night to take a look. It's about an 8x8 room, maybe 7 foot high, all the walls are cinder block. Here's the weird part, the whole floor is covered in ash and burnt pieces of wood, and a few bricks. Theres a few holes dug down in the ash like little fire pits. I can't figure out what it is. The house has a fireplace, but on the opposite end of the house. Any idea at all why I have an underground room with a bunch of ash and burnt wood in it? The floor of this room is at least 12 foot below ground. Any ideas?...See Moreladybug A 9a Houston area
