A small harvest; a hot plate and a warm platter
Comments (6)Very nice assortment Bill. I'll have one of each thank you! The second pic with the platter reminds me of Thanksgiving, which reminds me of..... .....wait for it..... .....that's right..... Turkey's Revenge !!!!!! Come on cranberries! Wish you continued success with your harvest. Rick P.S. For those who aren't familiar with Turkey's Revenge, see the link. Comments (8)Once again, jane, your 'simple' (the word you used) is so charming & elegant! Your new lanterns on the mantle w/all the pumpkins, leaves & accessories look wonderful...again I love the art work that you've shown a closer view of before. Pheasant decor/plates are beautiful! (like janet I've been on the outlook for one of those lanterns...I gave one to DD for her b'day a couple yrs ago). Those solid white ironstone dishes do make a perfect backgrd for your diff displays in this hutch (& I love your hutches ...both black & white one)! That 'Elephant's Trunk' sounds like a wonderful TS...you sure got some bargains!! All your Johnson Bros are so lovely displayed this time of the yr & it always makes me want to buy a few. Love how you used all the white assessories, too...the pumpkins, tureen, turkeys! So elegant looking! You've really got alot done in a short time, jane! Enjoyed visiting your home again & TFS! Comments (14)I love doing an Antipasto platter. It can get a bit pricey but it is so easy because all you have to do is unwrap, slice or removed lids! It's important to present it well so think of different shapes, sizes and colours when preparing. Roll some of the meat. some leave in slices. Vary the shapes of your cheeses by cutting into sticks, cubes , slices and leaving some whole to be cut as needed. We like: Veggies roasted red peppers selection of three type of olives marinated mushrooms marinated artichokes marinated cherry tomatoes pickled Italian peppers (mild and hot) Meats Selection of cured meats (hot, medium and mild) such as Sopresata, capicola, salami's, proscuitto. I personally don't like Mortadella, those hunks of fat put me off. Also don't like pancetta again to fatty. Cheeses Fontina, Boccocini, Mozzarella, semi hard Asiago, Provolone. A Gorgonzola is a nice addition and not often done. I like semi hard or soft cheeses . I don't care for the hard ones like Parmesan, they just don't cut well. I also don't care for smoked cheeses. Carbs I prefer sliced Italian Bread, French Baguette or soft bread sticks instead of crackers and hard bread sticks. Serve along with olive oil and balsamic for dipping. Have fun!...See MoreGreen vegetable ideas for Thanksgiving?
Comments (49)Well if it doesn't have to be healthy...... Then I recommend a broccoli Cauliflower gratin. This is a recipe from the fuzzy little ewok (I still call him that after all these years!) but you certainly do not need "essence" to make it wonderful. Broccoli and Cauliflower Au Gratin by Emeril Lagasse .Prep Time:30 minInactive Prep Time:hr minCook Time:55 minLevel: IntermediateServes: 6 to 8 servings.Ingredients Â1 stick plus 2 teaspoons unsalted butter Â3 pounds cauliflower, trimmed and cut into large florets Â1 1/2 pounds broccoli, trimmed and cut into large florets Â2 teaspoons salt, plus more as needed Â1/2 cup all-purpose flour Â6 cups whole milk Â1/4 teaspoon cayenne Â8 ounces grated cheddar cheese, about 3 cups Â1 cup fine dry bread crumbs Â2 teaspoons Essence, recipe follows Â1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil Directions Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Grease a 3-quart casserole dish with 2 teaspoons of butter and set aside. Bring a pot of salted water to a boil. Add the cauliflower and cook until tender but still firm, 8 to 10 minutes. Transfer with a slotted spoon to a colander, rinse under cold running water, and drain well. Return the water to a boil, add the broccoli and cook until tender but still firm, about 5 minutes. Drain in a colander, refresh under cold running water, and drain again. Place the cauliflower in the prepared pan and top with the broccoli. In a medium heavy saucepan, melt the remaining stick of butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour, whisking constantly over medium heat until thickened into a blond roux, about 4 minutes. Add the remaining 2 teaspoons salt and the cayenne, stir, and gradually add the cold milk, whisking constantly until the mixture thickens, about 4 minutes. Bring to a simmer and add the cheese, whisking constantly until the cheese is melted. Remove from the heat. Pour the cheese sauce over the vegetables, gently rapping the casserole dish on the counter top to dispel air bubbles. In a bowl, mix together the bread crumbs, oil, and Essence and evenly distribute over the top of the vegetables. Bake until golden brown, about 30 minutes. Serve hot....See Moresushipup1
