Comments (9)In a past home, we had a walkway on the 2nd story that was open to the family room. We HATED it. Our son could hear the phone ring on the first floor and he was much farther down the hall. We walled up that 2nd story walkway. I would DEFINITELY do doors. Maybe French doors if you don't want pocket doors. Also, we did some areas of our new house with extra insulation and sound board. I would do this too. I have another friend who had a new house that she did not build and the thing she hated was all the sound between floors. I would do anything possible to keep that sound from mingling with the floor below. If your sons are anything like mine, they like to stay up later than we do. You will want a door there! Think about Rock Band and Guitar Hero. Do you have those games??? We are doing a video game room in our new house in the basement and we put doors on it. Soundproof that room!!!! :)...See MoreBig argument
Comments (23)Don't ask me why she hasn't had a psych eval. They didn't give one to my ss until things got real bad with him either. He tried strangling his sister, physically attacked my oldest son when he could, and accused us of child abuse, where CPS was called and the lady who interviewed us actually lost her job because of the way she attacked me personally and told me that I had no business saying anything as it pertained to the skids. They actually wanted to put him in a group home, but insurance would not cover it, and then his mom took him back. Clarifying, SD is abusive to the baby, ie slapping him in the face, pinching him and pulling his hair. My 6 year old has seen her do these things. She has done and does still on occasion do that to the 6 year old. But not as often because she is old enough to speak up and say something. It has been brought up to her therapist, and I really don't have a clue what the deal is with that situation. All I know is it was brought up. It is toxic here. Not because of me. I have done all I can to help my sd (and her brother for that matter). I have just reached the end of my rope. No knots to tie here. I have said it before and I will repeat it for those who are stubborn and can not see past their own issues. I like my sd and care about her, but not her behavior. She is a very troubled girl and she does need serious professional help. On the whole eating issue. It isn't me. I have cooked dinner for them for years and we all eat together and have dinner conversation. It is the one place where we all get together and eat and talk. She hasn't participated in quite some time (most of the summer). She is eating upstairs now, but she waits till everyone is done eating and then she comes up to eat. This is all by her choice. Her choosing. I know it is the easiest thing to just blame me and say I am the reason she won't eat dinner with us. Whatever. I know what happens in my own home. It isn't anything that we are not used to. We had to go through it with her brother, so it should come as no shock to us that we now have to deal with this behavior with her. I am also used to being the target for all the behaviors. It is pretty typical for attachment issues....See Morecutout for slide-in range??? please resolve argument!
Comments (6)With all due respect, I beg to differ. My kitchen installer and my countertop fabricator and installer both told me the countertop needs to go under the lip of the slide in if it is a true slide-in and not a free standing range. That is WHY the range has a lip on each side and it is what gives the "built-in" look. More than one granite professional told me the same when I asked, because I had really wanted to avoid making that purchase right away, but didn't want to be sorry later if I waited. I went out and purchased a new range just for this reason because everyone was adamant that in order to be installed "correctly" the range had to be purchased in advance so the opening could be custom cut for the model of range so that the lip would fit over the countertop. That is not the case for a free standing unit where you can just slide it into place between 2 cabinets. That is what I had before and was going to replace it with a slide in at a later date to save money. That was not recommended by anyone involved in my kitchen. That said, if you already have a standard 30" space with no overhang, you CAN probably substitute a slide in there but it might not have the custom fit it would otherwise. I can get photos if needed. Comments (20)These considerations above are the same I go back and forth and can't seem to make up my mind. Gosh, I didn't know deciding on handles would be so difficult! :) @ Mayflower: I am actually leaning towards the dakota wire pull in antique pewter. I like it because it is dark, but not "too" dark, like ORB. I looked at tons of white kitchens on pinterest and while I like black and ORB there, here in my home I feel it pops against the white cabinets and the overall feeling of the kitchen too much. @Herbflavor: Thanks for the compliments on my kitchen. That is what I was going for/wanted - a airy, light kitchen with a farm feel to it. But not too "farmy" if you get my meaning. I feel like a light hardware finish would make the kitchen even more "airy and light" (polished nickel) and love the look of it on pictures. Matter of a fact, I was almost certain I was going to choose the bistro handle in PN, but then, when I put it against the the cabinet in my kitchen, I didn't like it. I thought it was too chunky/big and shiny. @Pippabean: Thanks:) My little helper is great and has lots of opinions - she thinks herself and artist and because of that, her opinions is the one that should matter....lol Actually some of her opinions are good - she told me the kitchen had too much blue and need some other colors:) The backsplash is a portuguese tile I took forever to find and I am so happy with it. It makes me smile every time I look at it because it reminds me of my home country and, mostly, of my grandma (she was Portuguese) who was fantastic! They are blue and white. On the other walls, I have simple subway tiles by Fireclay in Tusk color. Thanks again everyone!...See Moregardengal48 (PNW Z8/9)
