Living Room Ideas??
Hi Houzzers! I need your recommendations on how you would decorate this room. Specifically, I am looking into getting a new sofa (sectional? Two sofas? Etc). How should I position the furniture? It’s more of a rectangular shaped room so it makes it difficult for me! What are your thoughts on window treatments? My palette is neutral and contemporary through the house but wouldn’t mind introducing a little color. Would also like to know what I am doing right. I would love to hear your thoughts! It’s such a beautiful room and want to treat it well. Thanks in advance!

Yes, we have another dining room adjacent to our kitchen (see attached) When we purchased the house, the shelf that is up against the wall was sticking out from the wall in a peninsula postion (see pictures 3 & 4). We thought it was attached until my husband leaned against it and it moved. Prior to that, we were trying to figure out how to have a dining room to seat at least 10 and not be on the white carpet (we entertain family a lot). When the shelf moved, it opened up the room where the fireplace is to then become a dining room adjacent to the kitchen. We also have a walkout family/game room downstairs so no need for a TV in the living room. My husband would like a library - that's where that idea came from. We were starting one on the built in shelves in the now dining room, but it looked awkward and out of place. Our style is modern farmhouse and my ideabooks are from when we were looking for houses before we purchased in November. I'd see one thing I liked in a picture and I'd save it. The home we ended up buying is a totally different layout than ones I saved ideas for. I love the chairs and have been trying to figure out how to "country-ft" them. Comments (51)I like that lamp, too. It can be used with or without the metal overlay. I could see a minimal gallery wall where the burner is. Maybe just 3 or 4 pieces. Nothing of great sentimental or monetary value - in terms of paintings - since there is heat rising there. You could also include a mirror with the art if you wanted to - since you are thinking of a mirror for that spot. Comments (5)Center the rug in the middle of the room, aligned with the longer wall where the sofa is now. Move the TV to that wall and float the sofa facing it, perpendicular to the bar and sliders on that end of the room. Get a pair of swivel chairs and place them right and left of a new, round coffee table. Comments (23)You say you have a LR and a TV room which space are you showing.? To get real help we nned measurements of the space and the furniture . I think right now it looks bare and uninviting with art on the walls and a couple of pillows the space will feel different and I agree if this is the LR space then the chairs turned to face the sofa would be a much better choice but I need a to scale floor plan of the whole living space with all measurements clearly marked . 4 years agolast modified: 4 years agoLove the chairs and coffee table. Rug is a bit small for so many large scale pieces. This chart about coffee table size should help guide decisions on the size of your new sofa. As long as everyone can reach the coffee table to put down a drink, you don't need end tables; they're making a bit of visual clutter (especially in contrast to the curves of the chairs.) What did RH have to go with those chairs? Do you have a basement or crawl space? Looks like some floor outlets are needed so you can flank the new sofa with a pair of floor lamps.
