Slightly OT but my hosta peeps know it all! :)
Comments (15)I think your description of the rumors is very good - they ran rampant last spring - and I suspect the truth is much more mundane. Certainly there were personal and professional issues involved in his move. A more reasonable question might be why Hans would have stayed with one local specialized wholesaler for such a long time. Shady Oaks still concentrates on hostas and, though they have expanded into some other plants, their selection is still quite limited. Walters, on the other hand, may offer the widest range of perennials of any wholesaler in the US. I know Hans has developed interests beyond the world of hostas, and his opportunity to explore other plants would have been much more limited had he stayed at SO. I stopped at Walters last summer on the way to the convention and fell into spending a couple of hours touring around the farms with the president of the company. They were excited to have Hans, primarily for his interest in some other plants beyond the hostas... So... without participating in the rumor mill... I'm excited for Hans to have the resources of Walters to explore his interests... and yet as a Minnesotan, I was sorry to see him go. And to remain OT, I like HOSTAS, but ligularias in my sandy soil tend to droop so dramatically at the slightest bit of brighter light or heat, I only grow the species plant ligularia przewalskii. It tolerates dry conditions much better than the bigger leaved, more dramatic ones. It has smallish leaves with neat cut edges, so it has its own charm. Nice companion for HOSTAS....See MoreJust Peeped in to Say 'Hello'
Comments (12)Y'all are so very sweet. Yes,it has been painful to relive so many wonderful memories of our precious daughter, but it's also been a good thing. I kind of had a meltdown sitting in her closet last night as I was going through her things and reading letters that people wrote to her. We put many of them in the coffin with her. Her room and closet is pretty much the same as it was when she left us. We haven't needed it, so I have just left it as it was. The name of the book is "Christin, Forever 19" We are about half way finished now and would like to get it printed by April 5 which is Christin's heaven date. It's great to hear from all of you again. So many kind people here. I LOVE to look at all of your pictures when I can. Take care! Will try to come back again before too long. Comments (490)Hello everyone!! Long time no talk!! I been offline from gardenweb for a while now. So... Any one ever heard back from Lisa??? Hope she is ok after hearing the news from her son... If It's actually the truth. But to be honest I feel scammed. Sorry just being straight out. Not by who I traded with but by Lisa because she disappeared conveniently right after the boxes were sent. Hmm... I don't know but please tell me what you guys think. And if she still around this comment gotta make her pissed if it ain't true and hope she communicates. Anyways I loved this group and hope we can move forward and continue it. So let's start a fresh thread and stay in contact. If you guys want to discuss anything about the disappearance situation please comment here so we leave all this behind and just start fresh in the new thread...See MoreOMG . . . A (Peeping Tom) Drone Outside Our Bedroom Window!
Comments (55)Oh my goodness, it was so surprising to see this old thread of mine show up today! Hmmmm, OK, this is what I did in the days and weeks right afterwards. 1) I called the sheriffs department and filed a complaint, which was pretty much worthless. They could only do something IF they saw it themselves or if I captured it. 2) I sent every home on my road an email telling them the details of what I saw and when, etc. And how angry and violated it made me feel. 3) I belong to our community NextDoor online website. I posted pretty much the same thing. THAT really got many, many people talking, and exchanging experiences and ideas. And voicing a lot of anger. Both of these were good things as I was sure that the voyeur/pervert was a nearby neighbor in the area. Meaning, he would see this and the uproar it was causing. And hopefully stop. 4) Finally, I talked with my adult son who works in the intelligence field for X (I can’t go into details for who), but VERY big. He’s not only brilliant in his field of expertise, but knows people who can and will go over any captured drone with unbelievable expertise, in their spare time as a favor to my son. Fingerprints, any data or photos found, etc., etc. This I posted on our NextDoor website and sent to all my neighbors, encouraging everyone to be diligent, watching for it, and how to capture it preserving any possible fingerprints, etc. I told them I now had access to an expert who I would send it to to retrieve any and all identifying data. And that I absolutely would not only hire an attorney to pursue legal action to the nth degree, but that I would also contact all the tv outlets with that info as well. And I was/am very serious about this. I think, I hope, that I put the fear of god in this guy’s heart, as we haven’t spotted a drone since then. But, I am always watching now. Sadly, though, this incident brought back a kind of PTSD for me, as I was the subject of an attempted kidnapping when I was younger in order to gain access to my father’s banks. It thankfully failed thanks to quick action by the FBI, but the fear of vulnerability, of never feeling totally safe, was all brought back in a heartbeat by this jerk! It took well over six months for me to feel semi-comfortable with drapes open here. . . and this place has many huge doorwalls and windows, most without drapes. That fear still revisits me now and then. I hate the fact that these drones are now so readily available to anyone, and can steal away your privacy . . . and more, on a whim!...See MoreNancy in Mich
