Have a reason from the past for not receiving KT messages.

I think that some people aren't aware that it's an option.

Wow, I've been homebound since Tuesday, stomach virus, and have to drive to mailbox, so I haven't checked the mail. Hopefully, tomorrow, I'll feel well enough to get out. I'll be sure and check tomorrow. THANKS AGAIN!

Not true!! I don't "follow" anyone and yet I can message anyone who has that feature enabled.

No, this isn't correct.

We discovered the follow/message connection when we were trying to set up a meet-up on another GW forum, so I'll stand by my suggestion as a possible solution IF you find you cannot message someone.

There's an option you can turn on that says ONLY PEOPLE WHO FOLLOW YOU CAN MESSAGE YOU. If you leave THAT box unchecked...anyone can message you.

I don't message very often, but sometimes it comes in handy.

I just checked...it says <ALLOW PEOPLE I FOLLOW TO MESSAGE ME> It's under advanced settings. It has 3 options. DO NOT ALLOW MESSAGES and ALLOW ANYONE TO MESSAGE ME

Mine has always said to allow anyone to message me.

Probably things have changed but at one time you could ask to have a message forwarded to someone and Houzz would send it then a reply. It has been a while since I used it. I would receive the message in my regular email account. I removed the messaging because of some strange things I was receiving.

I think the following thing is more often done in error. I have a few times clicked on a member profile to see something about what they posted, and then I find I have followed them. I think I corrected it as I do not follow anyone. I looked just now to see if I have followers and I do. But I suspect those were done in error as well .

For the point of info though-if you follow someone what does that do? Do you get an alert when they post something? Curious.

I've been here since 2001. Many years ago I had someone ask me for money. I turned off the message function then.

There is nothing to be afraid of with the Houzz messaging. If someone goes to your page and clicks on the Message button to send you a message, you will get an e-mail from Houzz saying that you have a message. That Houzz e-mail will contain the complete text of the message. You can ignore it if you so choose, and you can delete it if you so choose. There will be a Reply button in that e-mail from Houzz, so if you want to reply to the message, you simply click on that button. Doing so will take you to your page on Houzz where you will type and send your reply.

At no time does the sender of the message see your e-mail address, even if you reply to their message. If you choose to give that person your e-mail address so you can continue corresponding, well, that's your choice. You can continue corresponding through the Houzz app - you don't have to give anyone your e-mail address.

Several years ago I had someone basically stalking me here (or that's what it felt like at the time). I can't remember the name but they always showed up on any forums and any threads on which I commented and always found fault with my comments, no one elses, just mine. After one particularly nasty comment I made a snippy remark back telling them to back the he!! off. My comment was deleted and I got a snippy comment from GW, but they disappeared. I don't know if GW told them to leave or if they felt they had accomplished whatever they set out to do but that's why I don't want to be followed, I don't do meet-ups even if you're coming to my city, nor do I get involved in anything other than public comments.

I do enjoy reading many of your comments and seeing your pictures (hopefully that gets fixed soon) and I do share, but I control it.

Now when I try to hit the “thank you” I many times hit “save”, which I don’t want to do.

Darn tremors.

I see no harm in allowing people to message me through this forum. I don't have to reply. I don't have to read what an annoying person sent either.

I've had some very nice conversations with many good people via Gardenweb or Houzz.

I just checked and was surprised to see all those "preferences" checked. Don't remember doing that at all. Must have come along with one of our many changes. Sure enough mine was off and I turned it on. If anyone else wants to check theirs, its under the Privacy setting right near the very end.
