Broken limb
Comments (5)Depending on the level of ripeness, you may be able to pickle them, as is done with walnuts - you used (I haven't looked in recent years as I eat much less red meat) to be able to buy jars of pickled walnuts from Crosse & Blackwell, to be used as a condiment, especially with roast beef. As I recall, an old Joy of Cooking that my mother had had a recipe - since I could purchase them, AND had no access to green walnuts, I never tried. They were pickled without the hulls, but with the shells, as I remember them - the shells were soft. I don't know how much effort is involved, but it's something to do with them.......See Moremy poor broken tree - can it be saved?
Comments (1)I broke a limb on my Ponderosa lemon last autumn when I was putting it in the greenhouse. It was hanging on by just a little wood where it split from the trunk. It was a clean split, not any splinters. It had heavy, large lemons on it. I sprinkled a drop or two of SuperThrive on the wound. I pulled it back into place, and tightly wrapped it with black plastic electrical tape. That limb never wilted, the fruit ripened and that same limb has huge lemons on it right now. I think you did everything right, so far. Now I would feed the plant some SuperThrive to stimulate growth and some blue liquid fertilizer at 1/2 strength. Keep it out of the wind so the splinted limb won't wiggle. Good luck and let me know what happens. - Terry...See MoreBroken limp on Tree Peony
Comments (6)Thanks for the advice all! I was really disappointed with what happened but things do go wrong sometimes. I am sure the original plant will grow back to its former size next spring. A deer ate some of a pink one the other day but has not bothered it since. So far they do avoid peonies. They did not touch them last year but the pink peony was new this year. But the day lilies, they are lucky to get a bulb. The wonders of sharing my land with the animals! Thanks again!...See MoreQuestion about weeping cherry tree
Comments (20)Don't count on anything that you buy from a Lowes, HD, WalMart or even local nurseries to automatically do well in your zone. Check them out on the internet first. Businesses that sell plants are in business to make money. Even many nurseries will sell you plants that are not suited to the local climate. If they are responsible nurseries they will tell you that the plant you are buying will be an annual in your zone, meaning it's going to die come winter. Cheryl...See Morefloral_uk z.8/9 SW UK
