Carpeted Floating stairs
Comments (3)We had a similar situation in our previous home. We had a carpenter close in the risers by attaching boards to the back side of the stairs. Our treads surprised us by being oak when we removed the old ratty carpet. We had him use new oak and we then refinished the treads—you could also carpet everything. I would paint your baluster and handrail. I don't remember what it cost, but it was not terribly expensive and transformed the stairs (also made them sturdier)....See Morehelp with floating staircase
Comments (12)We just bought a townhouse that has a very similar style staircase. About half of the people with this model painted the living room beams and the staircase white. I don't like that look at all and much prefer to see the natural wood. I too think it gives a much more contemporary vibe than painted white....See MoreFlooring under floating stairs
Comments (5)Hi Tiffany, I'm not a pro. But from your picture, it is easy to see why your contractor wants to remove some of the treads temporarily. It will be extremely difficult for him (or her!) to lay vinyl tile under near the stairs and have it look right. If you don't believe me, get a ream of paper. Get a pair of scissors or a razor blade. Cut the paper so it will fit under the stairs. Then lay it on the floor, as if it were your tile. You'll quickly see how hard it is to lay the tile under the stairs. If you tell your contractor not to remove the treads during install, be prepared for an additional fee. A big one!...See Morefloating stairs before and almost-after
Comments (7)If anyone knows if it’s possible to use ready-made bending handrail parts to do this type of handrail, I’d really appreciate it. I found a local woodworker to make the handrail, but he’s very booked up, of course....See Moretatts
