I would not be concerned. I'm about 180 pounds and have stood on my counters many times. If you are really paranoid, put down a piece of plywood (with a blanket under it to prevent scratches) which will distribute the weight. But, realistically, this is totally unnecessary. Your husband, in his stocking feet, would be applying a pressure of a couple of pounds per square inch to the surface, which is nothing. Think about this: Would you be concerned with pressing down on the surface as hard as you can with your thumb? That's much more pressure per square inch than your husband would cause standing on the surface.

It’s not the standing that’s the issue. It’s the dropping of tools and objects. Brittle stones tend to shatter, or have impact stars. You need Moving blankets, securely taped so as to not slip. They are your friend whether you stand on it, use a Little Giant, or you use scaffolding.

Point loads on an island slab ... there is no warranty BTW.

Consider a 110 lb person in heels can ruin a hardwood floor.

220lbs on the ball of their foot is 50-100 lbs per square inch.

Respectfully, no 220 lb person is going to be generating point loads that high even on the balls of their feet. And, as I mentioned, a piece of plywood would make weight distribution concerns a non-issue. As for stilettos on a wood floor, that’s not relevant unless the OP’s husband likes to play dress-up. ;-)

For a less stupid 169 bucks, you can have scaffolding that could come in handy for a million home projects . And zero risk to a stone top. Duh.

Having done this more than once with no issues, I was simply indicating that it is possible to perseverate on some of this stuff. I also suggested how to deal with the issue with a piece of plywood instead of buying specialty scaffolding. But I suppose anything is possible...

I love our stone way too much, not to mention the $$$ it cost, so scaffolding route it is! :)

I've done a 6 ft step ladder on top of the island to reach the bulbs in the old recessed lights (vaulted ceiling). We put in new LEDs with the remodel so I shouldn't have to do it again. I'm the lightest in the family so I get those jobs! ;-)

chispa - I'm the lightest in our family as well (only hubby and I in the house), however I can't reach the ceiling from top of the island (I'm also the shortest), and I would never be brave enough to put a ladder on top of our island! :)

Jora, the only time I was afraid for counters/cabinets was when I caught the cleaning lady I was using a the time, climbing up on the floating bathroom vanity to clean the mirror! Yikes!
