help... i have reno regrets!
Comments (24)wow! thank you all for your amazing comments, suggestions and feedback!!!! I agree some wood and some plants and other decor will help to spruce things up... and also time to get used to this new space and just "play" a little! I had hoped to recess the medicine cabinet, but we learned we have concrete on the other side. We also faced some other design limitations when removing the wall between the shower and tub that forced us to change things up a bit. This is my first reno and it was a challenge for me to wrap my head around the many decisions that go into a project like this. I think I played it a bit safe, but hope this will be a room we can love for the next 50 years ! LOL cause my husband will probably never let me do this again!!!! hahaha thanks so much everyone!...See MoreI painted my fireplace surround black and regret it.
Comments (49)elizabeth Nothing lives in isolation. Without being confusing and contradicting, you are leaning to ONE palette in art. To one "theme" . Then......in a very cool toned look of those selections of art/wall decor, you are insisting they go over the mantel, where the REST of all trim is still very visible, and the tile surround is also warm. Unhappiness is your result The "playful" selections/pics you posted. may have been or are great on some other wall in that room, or in another spot in your house. Even painted black, that particular spot is begging for SOMETHING with a bit of warmth, no matter if you paint the tile, or re tile, or go back to trim white on the mantel. You are asking about this ONE spot. I gave you three suggestions. .......right? You saw the difference. You recognized that the first problem you missed, that LEAD to the paint job, was in fact the art above the off white mantel. That was best described as an ice cube atop a fire : ) I don't think you want to repaint all the trim in your house. Which...............yes, should have been a cleaner brighter white if the COOL palette is your favorite. Or all of our monitors are lying, or it was the time of day the pic was taken. You can WORK with what you have. Broaden your palette a bit too....See MoreHelp! Regretting Blue Leather
Comments (87)I like the last two rugs - are they the same or in two different colors? They will work and create the look Beth posted. I understand being a bit sad about the initial rug and camel sofa idea, but your living room will be lovely with the two blue sofas together and a lighter rug. Who doesn’t love a BLUE LEATHER sofa??...See MoreEdited w/*tidy angles* Open Concept Regrets - Help with layout/design!
Comments (27)I think you have done a great job with the space and configuration that you have. There are things that could have been done better, but you didn't know what you didn't know. You can beat yourself up for not knowing, but that is water under the bridge. Focus on building a home filled with love and creating wonderful memories for you and your family. The smallest home I lived in was a 2 br, 1 bath, 600 square foot bungalow that I lived in with my husband, my niece, 3 dogs and 2 cats. We had no garage or basement or attic storage. We also were young and just starting out and had no money, but we had each other and we had friends and I have wonderful memories from that time of my life. We lived there for 9 years. As the years passed my niece moved back to PA. (I grew up in PA and moved to Southern California in my early 20s). My husband and I moved to a much larger, much nicer home. Two people living in 1700 sf with a 2 car garage! It had huge windows, a nice yard and was light and bright. I loved my home and had built a wonderful network of friends, but still missed my family in PA. My husband loved his job and was quite successful I ran a small business that I loved. It brought in a good second income, but I was working with animals and providing services to people who were disadvantaged, homeless, terminally ill . . . It was more about the fulfillment of the work than the money. With his income I could travel to PA 2 or three times a year and spend a month/6 weeks with my family and I was good with this. Life was pretty darn good. Then my husband lost his job and fell into a deep, chronic depression. He couldn't function, couldn't work, couldn't do anything. I had to get two additional jobs to make enough money to pay our bills. I decided that I couldn't keep up this pace forever and decided to go back to school and get my IT certifications as a network engineer and DBA. For two years I ran my business, managed road shows for Costco, worked as a merchandizer for Red Star Yeast and went to school full time. I'd fall asleep while eating dinner or taking a bath, sometimes I'd doze off if I had to stop at a red light. I had no time for anything or anyone. I had no life and I had a husband that was angry at me for not spending time with him, angry at my success and spiraling down into deeper and deeper bouts of depression. Turns out that being happy had nothing to do with having a bigger or nicer house....See MoreFori
