Comments (20)Following my post yesterday about the museum in Brazil that burned, I'll post some pictures from my visit to the Rio Zoo which is adjacent to the museum. I've selected some that are inspired by each of the images above: The grizzly bear weighs about 1/2 of what a giant pumpkin weighs: these are flowers that were growing in the zoo: these fun-shaped trash receptacles look sort of like a row of pumpkins: Guys working with plants ... they are feeding the giraffe A bright red thing in the middle of the picture ... well orange anyway. A pathway ... a road curving up a hill just outside the park A bird on a railing ... This looks like a nuthatch's big brother. A laughing rat ... A rodent that you wouldn't laugh about kittens ... a feral cat that was sleeping in the zoo no sand sculptures in the zoo, but after leaving there we stopped back at our hotel on Copacabana Beach which had this view...See MoreI'll show you mine/you show me yours - W 10/8
Comments (11)Murals Arts Philadelphia has been creating murals for over 30 years all across the city and is the largest public arts program in the US. It started out as an anti-grafitti project that has now produced over 3,600 murals. https://www.muralarts.org/artworks/ This is the only one I have on my laptop - and it was a day that the city decided to work in the street so they took over the parking lot....See MoreI'll show you mine/you show me yours - W 10/25/23
Comments (21)Willi Wong was a basketball player and I believe only 5 and a half feet tall. Woo woo was his nickname. He gave back to the children of San Francisco, He was raised in Chinatown in SF. ETA https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willie_%22Woo_Woo%22_Wong Willie Wong (traditional Chinese: 黃顯護; simplified Chinese: 黄显护; pinyin: Huáng Xiǎnhù; Jyutping: Wong4 Hin2wu6)[3](1927–2005) was an American basketball player who was born and raised in Chinatown, San Francisco. Though Wong was only 5 ft 5 in (1.65 m) tall, he excelled, and was known as one of the finest Chinese American basketball players in the 1940s. He was nicknamed "Woo Woo" Wong by Bob Brachman, a local sportswriter for the San Francisco Examiner, because fans would shout "Woo Woo" when he scored.[4] To honor Wong's athletic achievements, local Chinatown residents successfully petitioned the City and County of San Francisco to rename the "Chinese Playground", where he played as a child and developed his basketball skills, to "Willie "Woo Woo" Wong Playground".[18][19][20] It was closed for more than two years while undergoing a $14.5 million renovation, and reopened in February 2021 with "dragon and phoenix" play structures.[21]...See MoreI'll show you mine/you show me yours - W 1/10/24
