Painting cabinets help or hurt this kitchen? Photoshop help anyone?
Comments (30)That stone alcove over the stove would bug me from a cleaning perspective. But major bucks to tear out. How likely are you to do that? You can paint the cabinets by yourself, but you need to use nasty oil based paint and a sprayer. My friend had hers done, the people took them down and sprayed them out in her barn (so it could be done with proper equipment and ventilation) and then they were put back up. You could do that yourself but only if you were very handy as far as taking them down and putting them back up. If you don't prep them properly, the paint will just peel off. My landlady paints her kitchens with very little prep. every couple of years, the paint does not stick. I'm lazy. I'd live with it and save up for the redo. Meanwhile I'd paint the shelving units next to the fireplace the same color as the wall and call it good. I wouldn't paint one stone wall and not the other. I painted a cheapo fireplace wall once for that same friend who did her cabinets. It's a lot of work but in her case it was a fake stone backwall behind a wood stove. Stone is stone-colored. If you want white, cover the stone with white tiles. Painted stone looks weird. But that's just my opinion, YMMV so if you love the look of painted stone, go for it. But I wouldn't do it in the vain hopes it's going to look like something else, other than painted stone....See Morekitchen remodel; cabinet color and cabinet color and backsplash help
Comments (2)Go for the ivory color in the granite. Bring home swatches and find one that matches well. For the backsplash, just remove all of the tile over the granite bs, clean up and paint the wall above it....See MoreNeed cabinet color to go with orange, grey and blueish grey.
Comments (13)White for the cabinets. I agree with @schnoodlemom. Give SW 7000 Ibis White a try. And don’t paint the edging on your counter. It’ll be fine. By the way, you can re-laminate your existing counter while keeping the substrate for very little money, if you are interested in making a change in your counter material....See MoreKitchen Cabinets Paint Help (white cabinet with blue-gray island)
Comments (18)Are your floors stained on-site hardwood or did they come pre-finished? I’m asking because I really like how your kitchen has turned out - and I’m thinking about being a copycat (as my mom used to tell me - “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery“ - every time my younger sister would “copy” me - ex. I cut 6” off my hair - 4 days later my sister got the same exact haircut). I might have missed it - but what did you go with for your backsplash? Oh - and I know that you already had your countertops but . . . Are they quartz or marble? Everything really looks nice. I may go a with a little “moodier” blue on my island - but I really like yours too. i just looked back through your photos - the blue island has so many looks depending upon light!...See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
