Design question: Island Pendant Lights - Black or Brushed Nickel?
Comments (3)I chose the pendant color after the cabs, counters and sink were in. I bought pendants in a couple of different finishes at the local big box, and carefully held them up to see which I liked. Then I carefully repacked and returned them. It was a lot easier to choose the color when I could see it in the space. I did this with the hardware, too, and I was surprised that the finish I expected to use didn't work. So keep an open mind - there might even be other options in the "gray or black metal" family that could be perfect....See MorePendant lighting for kitchen island
Comments (6)I like them. Your kitchen is lovely. But I am not a lighting designer... Check out this link. I cut and pasted a little of what she wrote. She even has an amazing diagram. https://kathleenjennison.com/2015/how-to-pick-a-perfect-pendant-light/ Kathleen Jennison wrote: For example if your room is 9 feet by 10 feet, then your pendant should be great than 19 (9 + 10) inches in diameter. To calculate the size of each pendant in a threesome over a kitchen island, follow the same formula. For example, if you island is 6 feet by 3 feet, then each of your three pendants will be greater than 9 (6 +3) inches in diameter....See MoreKitchen recessed lighting & island pendant lighting placement ideas
Comments (1)I don't have pendents or recessed lighting - so no help there, but if you don't have under cabinet lighting, add that to your list. My under cabinet lighting is the most helpful lighting I have. At a guess, I would say 2 pendants over the island, but your lighting store should also be able to help you. It depends on what you use and if your recessed lights light up the island - then pendants aren't necessary. Change out the track light over the sink for sure....See MorePendant lighting size for kitchen island
Comments (16)Thank you, but I don't consider it a poor design. It's what I wanted and what will fit in the space allowed. What you all don't realize is that it is an L shaped in-law apartment above a garage in my daughter's house. I have no need for a stove, I don't cook much. Portable devices are fine for me and if I want to do anythinig else I can just run downstairs to my daughter's kitchen. I would only put 2 seats there anyway, and if that's not comfortable, I only NEED one for ME. And yes, that is not the question. I just want to know if the lights I picked are too big. I've seen plenty of pictures on this website with large pendants over small spaces. So, general concensus.. yes 3 lights will look fine or no they are too big... simple, no? And the 3 holes/connections have all ready been put in the ceiling for the lights. It's a plaster ceiling so I will be sticking with 3 lights. I'll just pick something out that is smaller in width & length....See MoreRelated Professionals
