Any ideas for a 1 inch back splash under very low kitchen window?
Comments (17)Thanks everyone for all the great ideas. My granite guy and general contractor were great today!!! Both of them are so nice and worked together very well. The granite guy is the owner of the granite store and he comes out to do all the measurements. I am very lucky because I have heard horror stories about contractors being difficult! We decided to take the whole window frame off so that we can have a 4 inch backsplash. The fabricator is going to also create a granite sill so there will be a little shelf just below the window. I think he said the sill will round out about 1 1/4 inch on each side to give it a nice finished look. He really seems like he knew what he was talking about. At first my contractor said he would just cut off the bottom section of the window frame, but the granite guy said that he would prefer to have it all off to avoid any space issues when installing. My contractor said, no problem. He took the side pieces and bottom pieces off and will retrim it after the granite is installed! Granite will be installed Thursday morning at 8:00 am-- so excited tosee how it looks!!! :) Now I'm thinking of painting the trim to match the color of the new cabinets. The trim is really a stock builders white color. Looks OK next to the Coconut color cabinets (which are an off white). I went to the paint store today and they matched up the cabinet color almost exactly- Benjamin Moore Cream Cloak. There is the window trim and then door trim that leads from kitchen, near refrigerator wall. The door trim is between cabinets near stove and pantry cabinet. What do people think. Leave the stock white paint as contrast or paint trim to match the cabinets??? The kitchen got a first coat of BM Capilano Bridge today- 2nd coat will be tomorrow. I think it is going to look good once the granite is laid- should pull out the caramel coloring within the granite....See MoreIs this kitchen with no backsplash functional? (see picture)
Comments (26)I'd happily attempt to cook in this kitchen. Yet somehow I imagine my family finding me at the counter with a knife in my hand, poised mid-chop, staring out the window at some far more interesting bird. Or at the range, vacantly stirring a sauté pan of burning onions as I admire the sunset. Cut fingers and charred food aside, I'd learn to live with it if you made me... Seriously though, I do wonder how it looks at night. That's a lot of black to look at when the view goes away....See MoreAccent in backsplash above stove or not?
Comments (52)Someone mentioned that with plugmold you see the wires hanging ... what wires ... not everyone keeps a collection of small appliances on the counters! My remodel was a way to get rid of countertop appliances. I'm going with plugmold to make as much impact with my backsplash as possible. The only counter top appliance I will have is a small toaster oven and it sits round the corner under the shadow of a tall cabinet. No one will notice that wire, but the main part of my backsplash won't have 5 holes messing up the pattern....See Moresize of picture frame backsplash
Comments (8)Kirsten's trying to say it depends on the size of the tile you're using, because you want to establish a design that takes the tile dimension into account in order to minimize any small pieces that might result. It'll look best if your border begins at whole or half tiles as is shown below: This backsplash "picture frame" in a herringbone pattern has a bunch of small pieces on the left but whole pieces on the right because it wasn't sized for the tile being used....See MoreJAN MOYER
