Lighting Design Dilemma hallway

Hi, we're updating a 1983 house. The current question is where to position an entryway light fixture. The popcorn ceiling and flooring and door are slated to be replaced. I really dislike the current light fixture. There's a short wall length right where the door swings open (on the left side of the picture), so I'm wondering if that affects where the fixture should be placed.

What other lighting is in this hallway, and does it continue ahead? If the doorway toward the room on the left is a narrow opening, you may want to center it with the opening. Post some more photos from different angles showing the whole space.

I agree - more info needed. Can you provide pics that show the entire space from different angles (What is the space on the left of the pic? Where does the hall lead?) Do you have a ceiling fixture or any other lighting in the space? Where are the outlets?

We're just across the water from you. :-) That is a very cool fixture, but I think you're right to be concerned about its small size in the scale of your room, especially because of the 10 ft ceilings. Our entry is 8'6" x 10' with 9 ft ceilings and next to our stairway. Our fixture is about 15" in diameter by 12" in ht. The size works with the scale of the room, but the one bulb is not as bright as I'd wish it to be. Your selection may offer more down-light, though. We have nice, bright recessed lighting in the hallway directly in front of this space, and, of course, stairway lighting, but I don't think those really improve the entry lighting situation very much. Determining the right size and scale for lighting fixtures was one of the biggest challenges. I'm jealous of your Hubbardton Forge fixtures...They're, by far, my favorites, but wouldn't fit in our budget. Enjoy, and best wishes!

I am no lighting expert, but my thought is that this will be too small for 10' ceilings. I am building a new home with 10' ceilings too and I know this will be a consideration for me when I choose my lighting. I think there is probably some ratio or rule of thumb on size--maybe do a Google search?

If you are planning to re do the ceiling, I would drag that power up to the ceiling and put in either a junction box or a recessed light. you could do a hanging fixture that way and regain that wall for more practical purposes. Since you will be muckin around up there anyway it should be fairly simple for an electrician to change it up.
