Comments (3)Well, what is it you want to see? Sounds like you want to be out there at night and want to find your way around. If so, I'd say you need floodlights aiming from the house into the yard - we have one of those and it is great when I go out late to put the garbage/recycling out. I can even garden late, and I also go out to do night hunts for weevils and such (with an additional flashlight) - the light makes it all possible. On such a large property you might also consider actual lampposts. If you want to be able to look out the window at night you need to ensure the lights don't shine into the windows and that the lamps are shaded from your view. The uplighting is obviously also a good option for making a pleasant night-time view from the house. The right combination will be determined by why you want lighting at all. Comments (9)I see that hallway and think of all the great car races! (Matchbox cars- get a bunch at yard sales. They are FUN!) If it were my hallway I’d put in bookcases in the Hall area and then a couple of comfy chairs with a table by the windows. Not need for fancy built ins. You can get gorgeous solid wood bookcases at a consignment or resale shop for reasonable prices. Take excellent measurements with you- you never know when you’ll happen upon something perfect....See MoreUpstairs landing design dilemma
Comments (8)I would say one armchair, lamp, small table. A reading nook. I wouldn’t put two chairs as I doubt it would be used for more than one person - likely two people planning to sit and chat would be downstairs. I guess I’m just wondering if it would actually get used as a reading nook. Sometimes these arrangements are better in theory than in practice....See Moregreg_2015
