I have a wet area on my farm that stays wet year round and it has several under ground springs that runs into a small spring fed creek. It's a short walk through the hay fields and there along the wet area and the spring fed creek is a vine type plant that has little runners on it and it grows on top of the ground in the wet areas. Its not water cress but its something eles kinda like water cress but not really either. One day while out walking I took a plastic bag and brought it back to the house and planted it in a shady area in my yard,that was probably 15 years ago. Long before i ever build my koi fish pond and that stuff is even growing in the hot dry drought we are having here in middle tenn in my yard. Does any one know what this is or every seen it. The leaves on the vine are about the size of a quarter and are round shaped. I don't like the smell of the plant at all. My point is that since i built my koi pond 7 years I thought it might be a great plant to grow in my 100 gal bio filter, to help filter the water. When It got to growning it finally developed so many long roots I finally had to just take it out because it was making such a mess growing its long roots into the bio ribbon and mats its was a very big mess to clean out. When any of it did grow from the bio filter which is a 100 gal stock tank and reached into the pond, well my fish would strip it clean in a matter of minutes. I now have the vine still growing in my yard but not in my pond and every couple days or so I pull some of it for the kio kids and goldfish and they love it.. I use a couple rubber bands to keep it contained while the fish eat the leaves from the vine. There's nothing but the stems left after they go at it. Anyone know what this smelly plant might be? When I mow the grass its very easy to control. My fish also eat the leaves on my lilies put not to much damage is done to them if i give then this green vine during the growing season, they don't damage my lilies as bad..It doesn't hurt them because I been giving it to them for 7 years now. Finished my web design classes last weekend, so now I have my weekends back again. Celebrated on Sat by doing a runaway weekend-day with DH. Went to Baltimore to see the old trains. Enjoyed it very much and the folks there were very very nice. Today I have been out in the garden all afternoon except for a short break to rest all those muscles that are going to be so sore tomorrow! Dug around in the mulch and replaced the soaker hose that I accidently sliced with my shovel last fall with shorter lengths of hose that can be more easily replaced if I do the same dumb thing again (!) Now I am going back outside to try and figure out how to attach the lawnmower bag to the lawnmower (we've never used it, but I want to recycle some old leaves into new mulch) and maybe divide some hardy geranium and bee balm into small pots for a garden club sale in May. Not done any planting out yet, because most of my seeds have only started sprouting in the last 2 weeks and are not growing very fast. I must be on the cold side of zone 6. Even my lettuce planted in Feb does not have true leaves. 'Ta for now! Lois in PA

Jane, you and I seem to have similar tastes. I do, however, really like Unique Purple. We had our landscaping redone and I used it in the front of the house plantings. The man who designed the landscape wanted to use Stella, but I had him use daylilies that I already had such as Unique Purple, some of my Siloams, and two different Broadways. I just bought Willie Lyles this spring and I too have blooms. Of course my plant is much shorter than it will be next year, but I was so pleased that it sent up two scapes. And one has a prolif too! THANKS for the nice remarks everyone. Seems like the forum is slow on the weekends? Or maybe everyone is in the pool to escape the heat...LOL. I still say that Little Boy and Fat Cat were separated at birth! HaHa....look at those portly fellows! If only they lived closer they could lay around together in the shade, comparing tummy girth and waiting for the next meal. As you can see, Fat Cat has earned his name. (It used to be Nemo, btw).
