This is embarrassing and says a lot about my short term memory .. I just found an almost identical post I made a year ago, with a similar photo of leaves on a Rosa Bernstein.

Someone then suggested an oxygen deficiency. But as that plant is now thriving I think I don’t need to worry about it! Maybe just a bit of black spot and leaves dying off ...

by the way we have very good soil aerators here .. ibis, who dig in the garden with very long beaks

Lenarufus, no worries about posting again. We are all here to collaborate and share. I had leaves similar to yours this Spring and I started giving each bush 2 Tablespoons of Epsom salt every 3 weeks when I added my liquid fertilizer. The old leaves that had the yellow pattern were not fixed, but the new leaves were nice and green the rest of the season. Epsom salt is Magnesium Sulfate and roses love Magnesium! I was just reading on the CoolRoses.com website yesterday and they give established plants a 1/3 cup Epsom salts sprinkled around the base just in the spring instead of throughout probably since less time consuming. Their easy once a year program is here http://www.coolroses.com/faq.htm However, I am guessing they have acidic soil, with all that alkaline wood ash and dolamite they are using. Plus in Florida they have a very rainy climate that washes nutrients away pretty quickly so they are using a lot more that I would in my dry climate. Their regime would not work for me. I am not sure where you are located. But if you want, you can add zone and location info to the end of your name like I did.

Houzz is very annoying sometimes! I used to have the zone in my user name, and now it has gone, and when I try to add it now it won’t update, just says ‘Use letters a-z or numbers 0-9.’

Anyway, it’s zone 10 or our equivalent, Sydney Australia, also hot and dry here in NSW and in drought with water restrictions, bush fires started in early spring.

Im not sure if this is a good example of the results, but this spring I followed Ludwig’s advice (South African rose grower, a YouTube video called finger pruning in spring) to pinch out about 1/3 of the young growing tips to encourage continuous flowering, and so there are a lot of flowers at different stages of development. But maybe this is normal?

This Bernstein-Rose also has different coloured flowers!
