Can you overfertilize an in-ground Meyer?
Comments (10)I will chime in here. I am not a Meyer specialist, but currently have 4 Meyers in the ground in a variety of soils and conditions. I agree with Johnmerr that your Meyer looks underfed. It could be a root health issue in that they are not taking up food. The leaves are telling you a story, but it's last week's or month's story! Is it possible to over feed citrus ? yes.... IF.... If you have recently fed it and NOT given it ample water and let it dry out, there is the potential to burn those roots. I've done this. If you fed it well and given it plenty of water and kept the soil moist, then it may take some time for the nutrients to be taken up by the roots. I see one or two leaves with a burnt tip. This is what i got when i let one of my Meyers get too dry (after feeding during hot dry weather). The burnt tip progressed from a series of suddenly yellow leaves. Good luck and give us an update on your progress! - George K...See MoreAre you bringing your houseplants back inside yet?
Comments (24)I broke down last night and lugged a bunch of stuff in. It's sitting in a corner, bugs, dirt and all until I get around to cleaning and repotting.... Sunday should be nice for this, I hope I have enough pots! I noticed this morning that I missed a few asparagus ferns. Don't ask me why I'm taking them in, they were $1.99 or something this spring and if you look at my time and effort in overwintering, it's definately not worth it. Obviously gardening is not about the money..... at least I don't take cuttings of impatients when frost threatens! There was a time when I'd have a whole windowsill of them! hmmmmm. Now that I'm thinking about it I remembered a four foot rubber tree potted out front..... I don't know. I may have to play this carefully. With the five foot elephant ear in the kitchen (temporarily of course) and the banana that still has to come in, I think I'm skating on thin ice plant wise. The rubber tree may be the last straw. Plus the local nursery has it's 75% off-last weekend clearance tomorrow. If I end up in the dog house tommorrow I won't be able to sneak off, let alone come back with a car full of shrubs and trees I have no room for! It might be worth a frozen rubber tree. Maybe I can hide the R-tree in the garage for a week or two and sneak it in later. She would never be the wiser. hehehe (my sneaky laugh)...See MoreDid you have your first frost yet?
Comments (8)I am in the Greater, NJ/NYC heat island ('banana belt'). So, no frost on plants but, yes, on the car. I also exploit my grove of Eastern Hemlocks as a microclimate. The containerized palms in there are still safe. Coconuts and Hyophorbe are inside now though. Usually, I can leave the rest out (Queens, Phoenix, Washingtonia, and Butia till early December. Getting drier by the day though on Long Island and NYC Metro. Using the lawn sprinklers tomorrow....See MoreDo you stay up to bring The New Year in?
Comments (40)Oh, heck no. We were in bed by 7 pm last night. Jody was sleeping and I watched Antque Roadshow on tv. Got a phone call....a friend wanted us to come over. I told her we were already in bed. She said she had all kinds of nibbles and noshes, etc., and it was just her and her mother and really wanted us to come. I said, "Well, you should have said something about it earlier." She said, "I thought you'd be outside feeding the horses." Really?? I fed the horses two hours before that. I felt a little bad that she had so much food and no one to come over, but I wasn't going to get out of bed to go anywhere. To tell the truth....as much as I enjoy seeing a friend once in awhile, the idea of staying in bed was much more along the lines of how I'd prefer to spend an evening....See MoreAtheen - 7a - in Maryland, USA
