Hi Jenny, I think a medium gray roof would be nice. Your brick color would look good with trim colors in soft white and sage green.

Benjamin Moore Saybrook Sage is one option of sage green. This is just to show you how it looks with the peach-y patio color similar to your brick.

Sage is usually a very good choice with brick that's peach-y/orange-y. Also nice with a gray roof.

A redone house a block over has similar color brick (although nicer and a bit more yellow) and they did trim in BM Kendall Charcoal and China white. it looks really nice but since brick is different texture and slightly different color I wasn't sure.

Jenny, that house looks nice, though the brick doesn't look like it has any yellow on my screen. I like their windows, and the garage door with the glass panels is a nice plus. The white trim with their brick looks good, too. Kendall Charcoal was a good choice with their roof.

I don't know much about painting brick, other than people say it has some maintenance issues. I see what appears to be a Sago Palm in your yard. Are you in Southern CA by any chance?

yes I would love to paint the brick. $ are a consideration. The brick isn't terrible but needs something fresher on the trim. If I do paint I'd say creamy white but what color trim/s? btw the palm in front yard is now enormous and will be replanted in back or given away.

If you're open to painting the brick I'd totally do so. I absolutely LOVE painted brick. If you painted the brick a white or creamy white, you would open yourself up to doing almost anything with the trim, etc. I'd do a medium to darker gray roof with the painted brick. Then you'd have a canvas where there is no limit, and would be able to accept changes later on. Keeping the brick as is really limits your options.

I'd go for a darker roof...something that doesn't look like (sorry) cheap composition shingle. Pick a shingle pattern that will give you some texture. I like your brick...the bricks are nicely shaped and have a very nice natural color. The problem with painting brick is not maintenance...the problem is that you can't go back to a natural brick surface once it is painted. Sand blasting eats away at the brick's outer patina, which is the strongest part of the brick. I'd play with the colors of the roof, garage doors, windows, entry door and wood siding before painting the brick. On the other hand, it appears if you live in a tract where many if not most of the houses have brick. In that case, I might consider painting the brick just to give your house a more distinctive look. I like your home's strong horizontal lines...I'd replace the existing bushes with something more dense and shorter that will accentuate the squat look. Frank Loyd Wright designed a number of homes with strong horizontal lines...perhaps do an internet search to see how he approached the landscape in such a situation. Lastly, I would scrap the palm...it looks lonesome and adding more plants near it would hide your house, which I really do like.

Please trim your foundation plants before they overtake your house and paint your downspout to match the brick.

And remove the dead palm.

A darkish, not brown roof, unpainted brick. It looks like Houston, to me.

I wouldn't go too dark with the roof. In this case, a dark roof could make the house look "squatty" to me...for lack of a better word.

I would not paint the brick especially if it is on all 4 sides. Paint makes it a maintenance issue. I like the color roof and color scheme of the other house, but I would use gray on the siding and white on the trim. I think the roof color is perfect.

What about "weather wood" for the roof and fern green for the siding?

paint does not make it a maintenance issue if you use the right product.

Ding ding ding. We have a winner!!! Now I just have to save my pennies for wood garage doors. (until I change my mind completely yet again. I keep trying to turn these Houston ranches into cottages which is why I was thinking of painting brick white)

I would go with warm roof and lighter warm siding and garage door.
