Will human touch cause a Robin to abandon its nest?
Comments (39)I had an interesting situation at our house. Bought a flower planter and left it on our front porch about chest high off the porch. I saw a bird's nest appear a couple weeks later but never saw a bird so I tossed the nest into the bushes to mulch. Then I saw the flowers were trampled and looked to see why and found 3 Robin's eggs in the flower bed. I used utensils to retrieve the nest from the bushes and carefully laid the 3 eggs into the nest. All the while the mama Robin was squawking at me. I checked and saw the bird returned to the nest and was doing some tidying up. Then low and behold she reclaimed the nest. Later that same day I saw 4 eggs as she apparently had one in reserve. She is nesting nicely now and we can't wait to see her little hatchlings come to life. I did handle the nest by hand at first when I tossed it but who knows if the bird cared. It makes sense that birds don't have a sense of smell....See MoreUPDATE: Victoriana Garden & Craft Robin is flying!
Comments (59)Yes! The box arrived yesterday and it is amazing! Everything is soooo beautiful. I took three pairs of earrings and a bookmark. I am adding a set of gold embossed gift tags, hand stamped and watercolor painted greeting cards, and 2 hand embroidered sachets. I will get it back in the mail and on it's way home on Monday! I'm so sorry I didn't post yesterday but my darling three year old daughter has the flu and I am busier than ever here. Don't worry LOL I didn't let her near the box and it should be germ free when it leaves our house. : ) I also took and then replaced six packs of seeds. What lovely seeds there are too! Thanks so much to everyone who worked on this robin. It's incredible! What a privilage it is to be a part of this swap! Comments (13)Thanks! What I started out with was the patina seen on copper (verdegris). But it looked too green whenever I saw it in person, and realized I really more wanted a bit of green in my blue. Then I found Tiffany blue. Love it. Evidently others who see it aren't aware of the difference between it and French ;D. I agree on the brown part. I think we'll shy away from it any how. I too love the black/white toile with it. Maybe that along with silver accents will do nicely. I hope! Thank bluekitobsessed. I've seen you round. That amazingly gorgeous bathroom. MMmm. I've actually been on GardenWeb a long while. My active places are the Party and Cooking, but I've also been seen on Bathrooms where I beg Mongo and Bill to settle fights between my husband and me ;) We're constructing a remodel ourselves and it can get heated. We both want it done right (read, our own way! here). We usually settle it, but it's the code things I'll ask them and then hubby does it, good boy. teehee....See MoreIntact Robin's Egg Metal Kitchen.
Comments (33)emagineer: "Plus a bit of wondering about lead paint used." Due to rust from aging/water, this is a real concern. One could check in the sink cabinet most likely. They sell lead paint detection swabs at the big box stores for around $15. You get an instant read: positive or negative. I understand accuracy of the test is quite high. Anyone know? palimpset and others: does anyone know when lead paint on metal cabinets stopped being used? Some time in the 1970's the EPA acted on removing lead paint on new products. The RetroRenovation site rejects any quires or discussion of this subject regarding metal cabinet paint and lead. On these old cabinets, it's a pertinent question since their sale continues. Interesting photo: a little too bright and monotone for me. Thanks for posting though....See MoreMark Eric Benner - Architects, Ltd.
