Help choosing backsplash

Need help with deciding on a backsplash. I didn’t want to do subway because I feel it’s overdone but I do like how simple it can be.

My preference is a brighter kitchen. I love white and won’t mind a white backsplash or white and gray but nothing too dark. I considered black and white but don’t know if that will be too much.

After looking at so many backsplash options, My husband and I picked a backsplash we both loved. When it came to install the contractor mentioned the tile had so many flaws in it and the gaps were uneven so it would show in installation. On one hand I feel (maybe it was an excuse because they don’t know how to do the job but at the same time I could see what they meant In terms of gaps)

Anyway we are now back at step one and need some inspiration. Got to pick tiles today. Here’s a picture of my kitchen, it’s open plan, walls are Benjamin Moore Metropolitan Gray, cabinets white with black handles and wood on floor is dark grayish brown.

Any suggestions and inspiration welcomed. Thanks!
