Comments (3)Have done what you want. Doubt the typical weekend warrior can get acceptable results, but if you're smart and creative, then maybe you could select a suitable self leveling filler, learn all you can about its application and give it a go. Good luck....See MoreHow much can I take off ?
Comments (16)I agree with the 'do not shorten the legs' group. The furniture was designed to look as it does by a professional. If you don't feel that some baskets below will help, try to take a very good photo of the piece in your home, or find one online, and if online, try to edit the photo to shorten the legs to see if you like the look. If you have a good pic of it in your home, print it off and maybe slide a piece of paper up and down on it to see how the shorter legs look. Once that saw starts, it'll be too late to change your mind!...See MoreLevel cabinets - How much can they be off?
Comments (15)N Sue: Your cabinet installer is a hack and you can tell him I said so. Place a straightedge under your level to make it a four footer or so, then place the straightedge with the level on top in an "X" fashion over the dishwasher opening, corner to corner. Do this all around too. Sight down the cabinet fronts. Are they straight, or do they follow a crooked wall? Let's have a picture of the screws he's using and their placement too, please. Walls and cabinets ganged together. You can't just screw a cabinet to a wall and call it good. If the wall is bowed, you'll pull the cabinet out of square, known in the trade as "racking". You may never get the door to shut properly. Finally, to answer your title question, "It depends." Eurostyle full overlay doors and drawer fronts leave no room for molding to cover shims at the countertop so you'll have to caulk to cover them. Even with perfectly set cabinets, some shimming may be required to compensate for varying thicknesses of stone. I just cut an estone top for a cooktop today. This customer's eggs are all gonna slide to one end of the pan because the cabinets and tops are out by 3/16" or so. Nothing I could do, the splash and tile above are in. He can shim his cooktop in crooked but level though. That's why this is important....See Moreuneven heat in my split level
Comments (5)Install dampers at main duct take-offs to help balance airflow... Not only are Return-Air ducts grossly undersized but also filter rack areas are also grossly undersized… This is Extremely Important when Sizing filter rack areas…! Time to start checking filter airflow fpm velocities...! NCI is the National Comfort Institute, Inc.; they say to verify the pressure drop for that filter at the design CFM & velocity and compare it to the available static pressure of the system, the pressure drop through residential systems should not exceed 20% of the fans rated static pressure. A .5" Rated system x .20% is .1" of pressure-drop... However; then they show the various WRONG steps in Sizing filters for the CFM airflow & fpm velocity required; the problem is that they use the listed total square footage of the filter and ‘never figure the actual open area or AK ‘of the filter, which makes a huge difference in selecting filter sizes for a particular required CFM & fpm velocity. After much figuring I have found that the ‘open-air or AK’ of the low pressure drop filters is at around 0.645%. .Return-air filters are not 100% open-air; for example RA grilles at 400-fpm velocity have a usual pressure-drop of .03” while cheap filters have around a .08 or.1” pressure-drop at 300-fpm velocity indicating many times more airflow resistance…! A typical 16x25 or 20x20 is a total 400-sq.ins. x* .645% is 258-sq.ins open-air Ak / 144 is (525-CFM / 1.791666-Ak is 293-fpm velocity); that’s only 350-CFM per ton on a 1.5-Ton A/C…! That’s how we have to size filters to come close to the manual D requirement of 300-fpm velocity… Some say use 250-fpm, I kind of like 280-fpm as being okay....See Moresuezbell
