Finally, pics of my new livingroom/entryway
Comments (18)Betty- would never dream of taking that away from him. He also sits at top of stairs and can see through the windows in entryway and the top windows in that corner. He can see all the people go by with their dogs. He barks at them like he is telling them to let him join them. Actually, the plant in that corner is a long basket arrangement I picked up from someone at work. It is simply resting on top of that large jar that we fleck spray painted years ago for our first home. In the pic it looks pretty good. We put an uplight back there and at night it looks pretty cool. Just need to get the right plants back there because in person the one there really is not that nice there. Can't use real because of doggy and naughty kitty. Thanks for all the nice comments. What is really nice about this room kinda fits a recent post about decorating more for look than function. Although this room does look really clean and neat it is really family friendly. We upgraded the microfiber to a stronger grade because we knew doggy would get up there when we are not home. The chair dh picked out did not seem very comfortable when he showed it to me. OMG it is so comfy that we fight over it, although it is his throne technically. We now go in there and drink coffee, chat with visitors or just rest. You can put your feet up on the sofa with no worries. The doggy drool that inevitably ends up on the glass tabletops wipes off easily, the round edges are soft on your legs when chasing him around the room. I am glad we did not do a rug under the dining table because when doggy chases kitty, she likes to sit on the chairs and bat at him while he is under there, he does not knock the chairs over. They simply slide out of place. We thought of curtain panels in dining room that puddled on floor but thought that would be too tempting for kitty to play in. Pups water/food station is on the slate floor. His dribbles from drinking land on the slate and by the time he hits the pergo it is all gone. I hate stepping on wet dribble. Yuck. So I think we accomplished the look we were hoping for. Magazine style with family function....See MoreDark Ceiling....Cozier or Endless?
Comments (19)I think my biggest fear (besides the bold move of dark paint on the ceiling) is the gloss paint. We once moved in to a house where the previous owner painted every surface gloss white. Not for decorative purposes, just for cheap purposes. So it is that memory that I fear. But I love the photos above. I broke the news to my dh last night. And I did it at just the right moment....he had one of those teeth whitening things in his mouth--he couldn't talk back! I don't want to do the walls the same dark color. I'm thinking of a lighter color and then the shocking dark/gloss ceiling. Now then, what do I do with all the junk up on the ceiling in the upper hallway....smoke alarms, whole house fan (this I know I can prime and paint to match the ceiling). If I can't get the smoke detectors to be dark, then won't they look like pimples up there? I don't understand why I can't take them down and just paint the cover, if all the vents are still open. Anybody know why? ttodd, I think you are right about the dimensions of the space playing an important role. My foyer is definately taller than wider. But, what do I do with the bit of ceiling space that is 8' that leads back to the family rm/kitchen/and dining room area? I wouldn't want that to be a "white" of some sort, maybe the wall color should just continue there? Here is a photo, pre-whole house fan, which is located at the top of the photo to the left (where that odd light is/was-it is now gone, but a little further to the left). In this picture you can see the lower ceiling just peeking out: More of the lower ceiling: View from under the lower ceiling part looking towards the door. So when the tooth whitening starts again tonight, I'll discuss more of the plan with dh. ;-)...See MoreIf I replace this picture...to a cozier one
Comments (19)thanks everyone alex - you get me! I need it to make my heart sing. nany2a - my objection to reframing is that it is a little tricky. The matting is kind of 3D and the picture is floating - sort of... maybe this close up will help. AND, it will be nice in my dining room which looks out over oak trees. happy - thanks for the sweet comments. sable_ca I had not thought of the idea of putting a mat over part of the current outside mat - that may be an option. You asked where I found the art - I put a link below. If I find something I like there - the shop I am working with can order for me at a more reasonable price. The owner uses a lot of John Richard furnishings. She is the most adorable person I have ever done business with. LOL - your not long winded! I love reading your posts - you obviously have a lot of insite and I appreciate your help. BTW - those florals do make my heart sing. WOW. dianalo - the thought of trying to tea stain that scares me - I have no talent there. Les! LOL - I was thinking about it this afternoon and had the thought, Les would suggest a tapestry I even went on line looking at them - there is some pretty ones out there. I am still looking for a fabric tablecoth to chase your suggestion for the table where the red lamp is. I wasn't sure about the texture mix - can I do that? While I like botanicals and now have a couple in the room, more than that does not make my heart sing. Your right - if I am not going to remat - the picture has to go. wow calirose, thank you. The mockups help a lot. The floral there is beautiful! wow. The one I picked out isn't as big as that. I need to go back and look at the florals that sable led me to. THANK YOU. kmcg! I agree JIM!!!! I am dying laughing here. YOU get the observant prize!!!! I took the origional shade back and swapped it out for the one you see and you are SO RIGHT! It is SO WRONG. I need to get the origional "coolie" shade back. I love that you spoke now instead of forever holding your piece! TOO funny. What an eye. :) Now, I saw this on ebay and my heart sang. Close to as loud as the florals - I have to be careful, I'll be all over the place and not deciding.
