Layout Help Needed! Long living room with too many doors!

Hello!

We recently moved into a new house but with all the doors and windows we are at a loss at how to layout our lounge so that it's cozy and comfortable but still makes use of the space. We just have a few temporary pieces at the moment but we are at a bit of a loss as to what furniture would work best in the room and how to lay it all out.

Our main issue is where to put the TV. At the moment it's in the corner between the single door and the window but it means that the rest of the furniture gets bunched on one end.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

What is behind the 2 white doors? Is that the bedroom and do you need to use those doors?

Im just trying to get a full scope.

Just wondering if RL and I are thinking alike, If that is a closet, It would also be a perfect spot for the tv.

With so many openings, paint color(s) are so wrong, as you have stated. With two focal points (fireplace and windows), choose one wall color. I can advise if you tell me from where natural light is coming from through the two large windows. You can leave the mirror. Good reflective possibilities. You can put a framed mirror over the mirror…kind of cool look. The t v and stand…are those yours? If so, move them to another room. I am perplexed as you are…why is there an opening by the fireplace wall into the dining room? Don’t know your budget, but I would spend the money to close that area?. Waste of wonderful floor space to allow for two chairs on either side of the fireplace. Your floors? Laminate? If so, you need a large rug to reduce noise. Back to your question…sorry. I would break the space up into two separate areas. Maybe two chairs and a table by fireplace to start your scheme..

Thank you! I wish I had though to measure the positioning of the doors. I think you are right though the only place for a tv will have to be between the windows- the only other available wall space is the main walking pathway. The house is under major Reno right now so it's hard to access it. Here is a "before" pic looking towards the front door, hopefully the after is much better!

IMO a long space with 2 seating areas has to have a connetion between the 2 areas and what yu have is a complete disconnection. I think the sectional is not the right thing in the space and the sofa table just adds to the disconnect.The 2 chep bookcases need to go they do not go at all with any of the other pieces That mirror is laeaning against a wall that would have been much better used for the TV . Could you post a to scale fllor plan of the whole space it would be easier to help with different furniture layouts. Also answers to the questions already posted.

Hiya,

So behind the double doors are the dining room so we’d like to keep those doors clear if possible as we’d like to keep the option of opening the dining onto living room

I think you would have more options if you took the doors off all the door ways. So much room is taken up by having the doors open up into the room.

I love the glass doors looking out to the greenery and patio. That's awesome. For long rooms, people sometimes create two sitting areas, so maybe one by that patio door and one at the other end.

Offhand, it looks like the current location of the TV may be best spot (or somewhere close to it). Do you need the wood door? If not, removing that might open options for furniture arrangement. I'm not clear on how this room fits into the house. Is it a family room at the end of a hallway or ?

It might be helpful to mark the sizes of the doors and windows (and that radiator) on the plan, so you see how much space you have where. I like to make little sofas/etc to scale and move them around to see different options. Good luck!

Not a Pro.

If you can change out the doors to the dining room to sliders, I would arrange the living room with the sofa facing the long wall. Tv would be positioned over a long console on the long wall, Sofa facing it. Chair in corner, or two chairs.

Definitely consider removing the wood door, or making it a pocket door for when you do need it. Then, among other things, you can put the TV flat on that wall, over a longer console, and add another chair facing the window.

Also definitely subdivide the room into two zones, one with a grouping around the TV, and the other end for admiring the view, or reading, or chatting with friends -- a circle of chairs around a coffee table could be good, or else a book case and a reading chair (with lamp). Could also have a game/puzzle table, if that kind of area would serve your family better.

looks to me like one end has more use as a path way and seating for maybe two chairs considering there are doors and windows more heavily on that end. could you change the swing of the diningroom doors? so they swing into the dining room? that might be a good resolve

We definitely agree with the suggestions of @girl_wonder @acm above on dividing the room into two zones.

@shiva17 We've created a rough layout for you where the two segregated spaces can be used for different purposes. You can gain a fair amount of privacy for the TV area and still enjoy the garden view by using a couple of armchairs and place them facing the large glass doors. You can add a bookrack or shelves on the empty wall next to the dining door and add some wall decor/art above the radiator.

@shiva17 Thank you! We are still working on that lovely teal wall. We do like earthy tones too, so we've taken a crack at a trending industrial look for your room. The layout is a connected whole with ample space to move around, yet it's visually zoned into two rather private spaces - one informal one for the family, and one to enjoy that awesome garden view. The lightweight, lofty industrial form factor nicely balances the visual weight and strong character of the brick wall. We can't wait to try the same on that teal...stay tuned :-)

Styldod yes, I googled your website. It looks awesome. Unfortunately right now I'm focused on kitchen and bath design. But when that's done and I'm thinking of my bedroom and living room/dining room, I'd definitely check you guys out. Looks great.
