36" Gas cooktop ok in laminate?
Comments (3)We currently have a gas cooktop in a laminate countertop. The only problem that I had was that my large BTU burners are in the back left and front right positions. I was using a large stockpot that had to overhang the grates and I didn't pay attention on the back side (I was using the back large BTU) and my laminate countertop ended up getting burned. It wasn't a big deal at the time because I knew that we were getting ready to remodel. Therefore, when looking at cooktops, pay attention to things such as knob location (which prevented me from using the front large BTU burner) and the size of the grates. After this incident and visiting a showroom with my husband, we determined that it was worth it to us to get a rangetop for our remodel since we use large skillets and pots frequently....See MorePut 30" in cooktop in now and upgrade later to 36"?
Comments (5)if you think you wil be moving to a 36" i would do it now. sell your present cooktop on craigslist to recover some of the costs and apply it to the new one. also look for new one on sale on line or at scratch and dent sale to make it more affordable. perhaps by doing this you might still be able to get induction. cutting stone is a tricky business. i would not risk re-cutting granite on site later and potential risks that introduces to what i am sure will be beautiful counters. the first fabricator did a major error on my marble which required the entire job to be pulled and re-done by a different fabricator. things can happen, don't take the chance!...See MoreHelp with Kenmore 36' induction cooktop amp reqmt
Comments (3)Also you might want to read the specs again. I bought this unit (although I'm nowhere near ready to install it.) and I'm pretty sure that the specs say quite clearly that the 36" unit requires a 50 amp circuit, which will require 6 gauge wire. The 30" unit requires a 40 amp circuit. Additionally it seems to be a straight 240v appliance, since the only wires coming out of the conduit attached to the unit are black, red and green. My question to the group is if I run a 6/3 cable with black, red and white, but no green, will it work to simply color/tag/label the white wire at both ends of the cable as green? or Do I need to buy and run 6/2 + ground? -Bob...See MoreRange vs gas cooktop over oven, and 30" vs 36"
Comments (3)I found that the size played a bigger role in aesthetics than I thought. In a very large kitchen, a 30 inch range may look underwhelming but you may be able to compensate for that visually to give it more presence. My kitchen has a very long wall. I had initially been leaning towards a 36 in induction cooktop with wall ovens placed elsewhere. Because of the proportions of the room, and some other considerations I went with a 48 inch midnight blue Aga Elise induction to be surrounded by white cabinetry and a blue island. Once the range went in, it still looked too small for the space so I had the cabinets on either side painted in the same navy blue to give it more presence. You are wise to consider the overall proportions of the room. And yes, aesthetics do matter....See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
