Marvin Windows vs Hurd/Sierra Pacific Windows - which is better?
Comments (75)Moisture between the glass would not be caused by poor installation. Rather, it would be caused by a defective manufacturing issue or due to some type of unusual situation where the normal wear was affected. For instance, extreme variations in temperature due to orientation or something going on regarding the interior of your home. I design and specify windows for homes in Florida almost all of them on the water or close by. Sierra Pacific offers a 30 year warranty on its 2605 finish and 20 year warranty on its patented Coreguard wood treatment and I would consider those windows. Andersen performs well too but they reduce their 20 year warranty to 10 years when on the coast. In my 40 year career, I have had great success with Andersen and SP and would run away from Pella if you are looking for an aluminum clad wood window. Just my opinion based on more than a hundred installations....See MoreWindsor vs Sierra Pacific aluminum clad wood casement windows/doors
Comments (4)What other options are available to you? Are you supplying or is that a developer package and only certain brands are available? Neither of those are considered a quality window....See MoreWestchester by Sierra Pacific Vs. Marvin Ultimate?
Comments (4)Personally I cannot see how anyone could claim that anything S/P is better than Marvin. Even your S/P Dealer stated that the Marvin's are a step above. No brainer in my opinion....See MoreSierra Pacific vs others
Comments (11)The SP casement locks are not ergonomic at all and require some force to close, thereby causing some discomfort to the hand when using the force required because the piece is not a comfortable shape. It also protrudes from the window frame quite a bit, making it a little challenging to have blinds which have to clear the frame. This is what I figured out about the casements. Roll in window with the handle until the window is almost closed. Then throw the lock. That pulls the window closed all of the way. Once the window is latch and locked, loosen up on the handle a bit, fold it in and the blinds will fit OK. But it's a known fact about blinds and casement handles. What size do you have? Ours are 2.5" wide. I was not really happy with the quality of the pre-painted finish or the quality of the cheap pine frame which truly is not very durable, but I don't really see what recourse I have at this point. Are you talking about the window frame...the part that wraps around the window? Did you order the narrow or wide frame? "Available in narrow & wide sash size." Or are you talking about the faux dividers over the glass? We ordered ours an inch wide. They come more narrow as standard. I do wish that I had stuck with my first thoughts and ordered the 1.5" divider. The rep talked me out of it....See MoreRelated Professionals
