Comments (12)Hi Toni, I want you to know that it warms my heart to have you ask if I called my neurosurgeon. I did call my neurosurgeon yesterday morning. The neurosurgeon's nurse told me to keep an eye on the swelling. I cannot for the life of me remember the name of the condition I have. Basically it is a build up of access fluids underneath the incision. I was told that the fluids would drain on there own, and also my body absorbed will absorb the rest. Since I have no fever now and the swelling has gone done significantly, there was no concern at this point. Toni, to make you feel better, the swelling has been reduced by more than half all ready!! I am relieved(to say the least) that I don't have to be treated for this condition! I am pretty sore today but again, I know I over did it. Before my surgery, I had put a bunch of my plants in the basement. One of them was my Keylime. The morning I went to Buffalo, I brought up the plants that I knew needed to come up, but stupid me, I forgot to bring up my Key lime! After surgery I was told that I couldn't go up or down ANY stairs for at least 2 weeks. Today was my first shot at getting my Key lime, even though I knew I wasn't supposed to use the stairs. I am sure this probobly made my back hurt. I was VERY concerned that my keylime was dead but to my surprise, not only was it alive, but it was budded up and blooming. The only light that comes into my basement is from the plate glass window. Now I do get light but it isn't good enough quality for growing my tropicals. Well Toni I hope I answered most of your questions. If I Didn't, let me know and I will try again tomorrow. Happy Thanksgiving and take care, Andrew...See MoreHoliday Cactus ID
Comments (21)I wanted to thank everyone for their help. All in all, i got 2 survivors from all the cuttings. If i could do it again, i think I would have gotten maybe 4 or 6, but hey, that's what its all about, learning. I have come upon a problem though. I am just not seeing any new growth. Back when i took the cuttings they had flower buds. I removed the buds so they could focus on rooting. Once they were rooted well, and things started to get going, i moved the two cuttings that did well into one pot containing gritty mix. A few months back, they tried to set buds again. I removed all but one, i should have taken it off too, but it got huge fast, and bloomed with a single beautiful bloom. It did this on the anniversary of the death of the person to whom it belong, so there was as feeling of symbolic significance to the bloom. Looking back, this probably drained the one plant of energy it really needed to channel into making pads. The long of the short of this post is, i wonder what I could be doing wrong to keep them from producing new pads? They are in a southern window, in the dappled shade of weeping figs and elephant bush. This area has constant air movement from a ceiling fan on low. I user FP and PT, 1/4 tsp every watering of each, though recently i moved up to 1.5 tsp on the FP. I lightly flush with every watering. My only idea is that i used DA instead of turface in this mix, which could have my PH a bit high, but i don't think these a fussy about that. Please let me know what you think! Photo taken today Photo of the single bloom from april PS: The plant on the right in the first picture is actually the really red one from my original post. It greened up as soon as i started feeding with FP. Must have been a nutrient deficiency. The plants had been in the same soil for probably a decade without re-potting and most likely without any fertilization....See Morewhat's happening with your holiday cactus?
Comments (29)Not a heck of a lot.. But I took a couple of pictures of a couple of mine that I have in the very cold almost dark garage..I think I see a bud..:-) Hi everyone..All you have such beautiful plants! Thank you for helping me grow mine and for all these pictures to prove you all know what you are doing... When those Christmass lights go on Linda, please share will ya? This one has been through the ringer..I have never changed the mix, it has fallen dozens of times, it has frozen over twice, and completely gone dry from forgetting to water for weeks, and it still lives..lol..You can tell, but it is still growing bud..I am going to take better care of it now since I am liking these more and more The rest are ones I picked up over the spring.. If they should flower, I will share..Thank you Mike...See Morechristmas cactus vs thanksgiving, holiday cactus
Comments (32)I have two hanging cactus plants that I would like to identify. The plants resemble Christmas etc only one has very large leaves and blooms with tiny little pale yellow blooms all around the leaf at each point. the other has smaller twisted leaf with a yellow bloom at the end of a stem and then a round bulbus growth in it's place. I can take pictures of them as they are now, but lost pictures of the blooms when my computer crashed. Thanks for any help you can give....See MoreStush2049 Pitts. PA, zone 6
