Water Softener Split tank

Local company is recommending this Caresoft Elite RC water softener:

https://www.watercare.com/products/softeners/caresoft-elite-rc.html

But i'm concerned as posted elsewhere on this forum:

First - Never, never, never, never, never go with a mixed media or built-in carbon or KDF in a softener. The softener won't backflush properly, the KDF or carbon portion will be egregiously undersized, you will have to change out the media much sooner and it will cost you way more money in the long run. It is a terrible idea.

The system above with reverse osmosis will run $2900

Other options are Culligan Gold for $2700 or Hague for $4000 (both with RO)

We have hard water (12 gpg) and are also looking for better tasting water (thus the RO). The RO would go to a separate faucet in our kitchen sink as well as the refrigerator for water/ice.

My concern with Culligan is all the proprietary products / service will make it more expensive in the long run, as well as most of the warranty only includes labor for the first year... the Hague just seems expensive relative to the other two.

Better options that are at or below the $3000 level?
