The pump was put in two weekends ago, and the waterfall has been sounding just so lovely. Before that I had the little skimmer pump moving the water around while we did water changes. All our fish survived, the only casualty of the winter was Bubba, the big frog. So now Wannabe is going to be called Bubba, and Waldo will be Wannabe, and any one of the smaller ones will be Waldo. They all look the same to me except for relative size... The goldfish are jumping out of the water, and our lone big koi is cruisin'. The had cheerios for a while in April, then spring/autumn food. Today the water temp was over 60, and I gave them summer food - mostly because I'm almost out of spring food... I have to order some. They sure didn't mind. The day the ice melted from the pond surface, was the day that the first lily leaf poked its head up. There are many lily leaves now and the pickerels and grassy marginals are all starting up. They all need repotting - but, no rush... We took the sediment filters apart last fall, they were working well but too large and unwieldy when wet. And the screws had rusted through. So we have to design a lighter weight version now. Meanwhile the double settling chamber is helping a lot even without the filters. Maybe we'll get that done this weekend. Weekends without ponding are hardly worth staying home for! :) Mary

Not only the Before & After forums get ugly comments, but other places bring out the "best" in people too. There was a photo that was published in a Caracole catalog. I really liked the fabric and was working with a client at the time who wanted a few Caracole pieces. I contacted the designer of the room and simply asked if the fabrics in the photo were custom or was it something Caracole offered (because I couldn't find that hot pink velvet in their selections). They told me it was custom. That was all I needed. So, I saw someone else post a question about where could they order the curtains in the picture (it was posted on Houzz). And no one answered the person, so I took it upon myself to let them know I found out that they were custom, and to check with an interior designer to help them out find something similar. Someone (not the original person with the question) left this comment: lizzybee17 I think that's a pretty ugly remark when you post photos on this site so you can advertise your work but won't answer someone's question . What a jerk! IM a designer and the only designers I know who won't give up sources ( especially for fabric ) are the ones who are not doing well. IM shocked at your arrogance. If you are that creepy about it you should have just said we DONT know! I sincerely hoped that they weren't directing that at me. I did a little looking and it was at the time the only post that this "lizzybee17" had ever made, and had not other photos or ideabooks linked to their profile. But it really reminded me of how someone can feel perfectly comfortable sitting anonymously behind a computer and just lashing out. I'm not sure where this person got the idea that anyone who posts a picture actually owes anyone anything. It's a photo. It's an inspiration. Someone paid that designer a lot of money for that design.

On my iPhone, I use the 'frequently used sites' icons that are there when I click on Safari and it takes me right to it. No (lousy) App for me either. But I also learned the trick (from a fellow GW poster) to find it anytime, from the Houzz Home page drop down Menu. And I always use a mobile devise (iPhone and iPad Mini) but it also has worked on a PC or Android devise when I've tried it. That other GW post was some time back when Houzz was reaking havoc with our beloved GW Forums soon after the transition. Everyone was having issues with their bookmarks and previous ways of finding GW. The poster mentioned that it was now listed under the 'Advice' section!! I'm sorry I don't remember who it was to give them credit for that marvelous discovery. Previously I believe there was a 'GardenWeb' listing directly from the main menu. So even just now, from Safari, I Googled Houzz, clicked on the Home Page, then click on the Menu icon to get here: Then click on the 'Advice' section and you will see 'Houzz Discussions' and 'Gardenweb Discussions': I never knew there were two separate Forums before. Then to get here for instance, click on the 'Home Forums' under the GW Discussions. And then you have all of the Home Forum topics: Or the wonderful Garden Forums etc. I'm not sure if everyone else is doing it like this or something different. But this simple direction has helped me immensely. I don't comment often (especially having delt with long term family health problems) but this Forum is and has been such a lifeline for me. It is informative, entertaining and has such emotional continuity with the history of such great posters. The knowledge base and the time to giving help from everyone is just amazing. And yes I quite agree with the frustrations of new Houzz posters who don't know the GW ways and other irritations. For instance I was no longer getting email notifications on comment follow ups like I used to on the old GW. I'll see what happens after this one though. But I plan on sticking around for the long haul. Sharing knowledge and helping; isn't that what GW is all about? Paying it Forward.
