Anyone else noticed a huge number of SASE requests?
Comments (44)Gwen don't feel bad. Katheria you shouldn't either. I wasn't familiar with the rules when I first came here. I was so worried about what I included in my first trade and felt terrible when the person I traded with sent me at least twice the amount that I sent them. lol I just think that many of us that used to post a lot of offers have cut back because of things that have happened such as what Poisondartfrog mentioned. I should have clarified when I said that I was annoyed by those who responded to all offers. I don't understand why someone, not a newbie, would reply to everything that was offered regardless what it was. For a newbie it's a way of building up a stash to use for trade and is understandable but not a member that's been here for long time. The most annoying to me are the people that respond but don't follow thru and it's been happening more and more lately. If you change your mind about an offer just let the person know that you changed your mind and no longer want it. That's no big deal and is just common courtesy. Karen I take the emailing cold as someone asking for plants or seeds that I haven't offered but just talked about in a post. I have no problem if someone asks me where I got something or if I'd be interested in trading. I've occasionally contacted someone regarding a plant they've posted about just because I thought it was interesting. Another thing that bothers me are the people that come here, respond to a bunch of offers then just disappear after they've gotten what they wanted. I see this mainly on plant specific forums. When I post an offer on the brug forum I open it only to people that regularly post. As for trade lists I don't have any posted because there's too many items and it changes too often but I do try to remember to let that be known when I post or respond to an offer. I just reread what I've written. I sound like a bi*ch. lol Really, I'm not : )...See MoreFertilizer.Does anyone else ever notice this from temp. changes?
Comments (13)I CANNOT believe you actually said this: "When was the last time you said anything nice to me????" but since you did, here's a real direct answer. May 7, 2009, (sorry I don't know how to post a link, for the real thing, it's about 2 pages back now, includes pix of my youngster) please see below: "How long does it take to root one of these? It is alive and well, but no roots..Weird. How long does it take to root, if at all? That leaf looks so healthy still... Thanks.. Follow-Up Postings: RE: How long does it take to root one of these? I've rooted leaves in mix, that can take around a year. I've recently water rooted a stem, but didn't make note of the date I put it up. I took these pix, 'cause they show the round tuber AND the roots the plant develops. I really don't remember how long it took, but am guessing 9 months maybe, like from last Fall (I think I had accidentally broken the stem off the parent plant). and and So if you can grow some serious patience, you might end up w/ something like this. I think I'll take mine to my local Plant Society to pass around & show this development & then sell it at their plant sale table for a couple of bucks. ----------------------------------------------------------- RE: How long does it take to root one of these? I rooted some cuttings in water and some leaves in soil but it did take more than 6 months. I now have a lovely little plant about 4" tall. After you plant it in soil the cutting or leaf will eventually die off and a new shoot will emerge. --------------------- RE: How long does it take to root one of these? That plant is so cute. Sounds like they take as long as a pregnacy for a women, almost 9 months..lol Thanks for sharing. It tells me that my waiting is worth it, and that it just may continue to live. Yes I am encouraged. I didn't want to loose it I will post a pic just as soon as I see a root... Pattirose4, thanks for sharing also. Take care and stay happy!! Thank goodness the spring has arrived..:-) --------------------- RE: How long does it take to root one of these? Comments (9)yes @zensojourner, I bought the phillips brand warm white 3000K and the phillips brand 4100K cool white. both were the twin packs at home depot. yes worst growth ever. the day I went there they had in twin packs- warm white 3000K, cool white 4100K crisp white 5000K and daylight deluxe 6500K. at the time I was overwhelmed didn't know what light was best for maximum growth on any indoor plant, I had a four tube fixture just dying to have tubes lol. so I went with the wives tale that to have a quote full spectrum of light buy warm white tubes and the cool white tubes. ya never again lol. so yes ill take your advice and buy all 6500K daylight deluxe and use them as the only light in the fixture, (I got some nice oxalis bulbs sprouting in pots as we speak in a SE window. thinking of buying the 6500K tubes and growing them under that :) and the good thing with daylight deluxe means with the added benefit of being 6500K the deluxe means they have a small amount of "red" in them which will help them to flower good. and yes ill admit I got cheap buying soil.. I had a tendency to re use soil each time I repotted a plant, when id shake some soil loose from the plants roots id put it back in my soil container. (I use a large under the bed tote for my soil. I just keep buying soil adding to it, when I repot a plant ill shake off some soil add it to the soil in the tote. but I think that's bad, I noticed because the tote stays sealed so long, I noticed on the inside lid of the tote theres a lot of condensation probably not a good thing. probably means even though I cant see it visually, there is probably microscopic mold in the soil in the tote and scrapped all the soil in the tote!! and stopped being cheap, and went out and bought the good soil to use on all houseplants- promix potting mix (the purple bag) all purpose. I now use it straight out from the bag. love it, think my plants will love it too!. is that one of the best soil to use on any houseplant minus a cactus or succulent lol? I know miracle gro soil is no good and stay away from it unless you want dead plants and fungus gnats through your house! but is that purple bag promix great stuff for most houseplants minus cactus and succs? and your saying just buy and use all 6500K daylight deluxe tubes in my fixture right? I usually aim for 16hrs a day with the four tube placed close to plant tops so my light meter reads 6000 lux or higher for 16 hrs day...See MoreAnyone else noticing the negativity on this site?
Comments (72)Honestly, this is the most pleasant forum that I've seen on the Gardenweb site and maybe the whole internet. Others have mentioned the antique forum, garden harvest and the pets forum, but the absolute worst was the Japanese Garden forum about 5+ years ago. There were a handful of know-it-all's who treated all newcomers like imbeciles and things got very very ugly. That forum is all but abandoned now. From my observations, it is always the "closed private party" mentality that gets the fighting started. The internet is largely a public resource and people have to expect anyone and everyone to show up and express their views or ask for opinions. If people want to have private conversations with only like-minded associates, then they should use email, text messaging or set up a private forum. The regulars here are pretty welcoming of the occasional posters that come and go which is what makes it work. I imagine the reason this post is so popular is because as a society we still haven't come to terms with the limitations of written online communication, but at the same time it has exploded in common daily use. Who would have thought 10 or 15 years ago that we would be able to communicate with complete strangers from around the world in writing about every subject known to mankind? There is a huge learning curve as to how to deal with different personalities and different ways of communicating. This seems to be why, on any forum, questions of forum etiquette always receive a lot of responses. It doesn't matter who you are or what type of person you are or what you are discussing, you probably will have run into problems trying to communicate with someone online. It is just a imperfect system (not to sound negative). One thing for sure, everyone here should pat themselves on the back for keeping things so civil as we discuss all things kitchen related....See Moresushipup1
