backsplash decision - 2 choices- help!
Comments (7)There is already a lot of pattern on the floor and in the countertop. I wouldn't add another pattern with the glass mosaic tile. You need a plain backsplash. The porcelain tile sample you show is too gray for the warm tones of the counter. I also wouldn't do a backsplash with different tile sizes. Too much already going on. If the floor wasn't so busy I would suggest a slate tile to tie the tones of the floor and counter together but I wouldn't use that with that floor. I would just do a plain subway in a white that matches the appliances and a white or off white grout. Another color there is adding another element without tying together what's already there. I would then add some accessories that tie in the floor color....See MoreMellie's Kitchen -- Typhoon Bordeaux -- Backsplash Decisions!
Comments (21)I have Typhoon Bordeaux in my new kitchen and I also love it. We used a marble subway tile called Bursa Beige with glass accent tiles similar to the ones you are considering. We did a row 2 deep of the accent tiles and it looks great. Since the granite is so beautiful the backsplash needs to be simple but elegant. Attached are photos of my kitchen. Comments (23)Smpop, as A2 mentioned above, I have linear mixed glass, stone and stainless mosaic tile in my kitchen so I obviously love the type of tile you are considering. My granite while actually splotchy reads as more of a solid color and I only used the tile behind the cooktop, so I don't think it looks too busy in my kitchen. Here is a look at mine: For your kitchen, I agree with many of the other posters that the mosaic that you show is great but might not look great in your kitchen. I think you could still go with a linear mosaic tile but I would look for it in a single color or tone on tone color. It is difficult to tell exactly the color that works with your granite but I think something like this glossy linear ceramic might work: Or maybe a frosted and glossy glass like this Those two are from Glass Tile Oasis. You can order samples on line. Good luck with your tile decision. Your kitchen is very nice, so warm and inviting. Comments (22)I have Fireclay Tile Caribbean in a paseo shape installed in a fountain and I love it. I echo the suggestion above of Nautical or Slate blue - those are stunning blues that will be more subtle than Caribbean or Aegean. Martinique is also an amazing blue installed: In your kitchen, I would also consider the Salton Sea (I have that in my kitchen and loooove it but it's green) or the absolutely divine and subtle Blue Spruce (you must see in person to appreciate) for backsplash tile in a subway or wave pattern even.
