I would paint the walls first before changing anything. I think the ivory color will work with the current brick. I like it as is!

I'd also paint the walls first....Sample a few ivory colors to make sure they work with the brick, and leave the brick alone. I would replace or stain your mantle to a wood color...something that works well with the floor and the stone on the top of the hearth.

Another one here that would leave the brick. It is beautiful and will look very nice with ivory colors. Just check the ivory samples with the fireplace before you choose the ivory. The only thing out of place on that fireplace is that white mantle. It should have been stained your floor color, instead of painting it white. The white does absolutely nothing for it or your room.

I cannot see the whole room, (more pictures needed) but from what I can see, I would probably rearrange the room and move the tv.

I would paint in the same color as walls, you have brick texture to pop up. Or leave it as is, it goes well with ivory color. I would leave the stones, they are repeat floor color.Just add some decorative pillows on right side.

yes, paint first. if you whitewash it and paint walls ivory, then it's going to look like a giant white wall of brick.

I would think about removing the far right portion of that brick and replace w/drywall. really no need to have that entire wall of brick. That way you would have some wall space to hang your tv.

I also would leave it as is (except, I do agree the white mantle isn't quite right.) It will be prettier with ivory walls. Definitely keep the stone hearth.

If you must paint, you can go dramatic, like navy blue, or Urbane Bronze (check any colors with the stone, though, to be sure they work together) or a lighter color like an olive green, or pull a color from the hearth stones.

I love all of these ideas! We have a few weeks until we move on so the armoire isn’t mine and I agree that it’s totally bulky.

I wanted to get these people out of your house, but their furniture was too heavy. I did get rid of their generic art and that vase of dried things on the hearth, and replaced the mantel with one that is a bit more fitting, I think.

I agree with groveraxle. Replace the mantel. You can buy a new one on Amazon.

If we could see your furniture and your style, we could make better recommendations. The wide fireplace would be perfect with MCM or modern style. furnishings. But you may be more transitional or farmhouse or another style.

You have the good fortune that you can place the 2 focal points, fireplace and TV, right side by side, with the TV over a low cabinet on the hearth. That makes good functional use of the hearth area, so you don't need to think about removing it. Floor matching would need to be attempted if you remove the hearth, so not easy.

The house is very MCM/Contemporary Ranch and our personal furniture should fit right in with it. We have very neutral colored furniture but will have pops of color in our decor. Here is another angle of the fireplace as well as the outside for reference.

Ooooo now that I know that wasn't your furniture and you're into midcentury modern, I think you could do something more bold and clean with the brick, like black (scary but so cool) or even a crisp white. It would also be fine as is, but can't wait to see it with your furniture in there!

Is the brick already been white washed as it doesn't match the exterior? If so paint away! It does look fine now that everything has been disappeared!!
