Engineered quartz causing lung disease in workers

I had not realized that engineered quartz is mostly silica, there are increasing cases of silicosis from workers who work with engineered countertop materials due to aerosolized silica particles.

A google search shows me that this is not a new issue. New York Times reported on it in 2016.

While it is true that the disease can be prevented with the right precautions, it seems that the precautions are difficult in practicality. It is disturbing that young lives are being affected.

This is new to me, and I have been hanging around the kitchen forum for a long time.
