Kitchens Design Dilemma Remodeling

any advice on quartz seam

We had quartz installed and I am not happy with the seam. The color of the two slabs seems off and the seam appears large to me.
Any thoughts?

I agree, it doesn't look good and what a shame to have a seam and such a small piece attached. We can't see the rest of the kitchen but it seems likely there may have been a better location for the seam.

As for the width of the seam, I'd agree on that too - it looks a little sloppy.

Start by asking the company to come back and lay out a plan to make it better. Is there any more of your slab left that they might be able to cut a new piece and make a better seam?

Ok thank you. It almost seems like an after thought. Our contractor is awesome so I am sure they’ll make it right. Thanks for your input.

Our KD said that our seam at the corner will be vertical and then diagonal at the corner - just like yours. Marinagal: I'd love to be able to review the seam placement but unfortunately, our fabricator is located miles and miles away and we'll be hard-pressed to take the time off to drive that far on a weekday. That's why I am trying to make sure I ask all the right questions tomorrow and give my feedback. Thank you for your reply.:-) a2gemini: LOL!! Sadly, what I find exciting these days is when the cabinet guy ( and all other workpeople) finish for the day and I can relax at last! It's amazing how tired one gets just hearing all the noise and seeing people going to and from our kitchen. I hope I'll be just as happy with our seam outcome :-).

Sorry, Melissa, I can't make any sense out of what you're describing. Perhaps you could draw something, take a picture of the drawing and post it? The more rounded the edge, the less likely the chipping.

Joe I'm sure you're correct about the difficulty in matching white in this segment of the industry. So the acceptable industry standard match may include this. . . . . . . . If I were doing the matching I would not accept this. Even if it may be a 'factory' match. It does appear to be a match for the grey. Maybe they forgot to bring the white factory match. There probably are two for this product . . . . . I would want to provide the customer with an actual white match. From the repairs I've seen you post I think your match would not be as noticeable. The 'factory color for a car has a single code. But when you go to match it the auto paint suppliers to body shops have variances, sometimes 6 or so. Darker than prime, dirtier than prime, and others with a sample card for each to put against the car and make it possible to get the formula right for a very close match.

It's not a disaster. But it's not great. In particular, the filler appears to be darker where it contacts the stone and lighter in the middle, which makes it stand out more than one would wish. Had it fully cured when you took these?

Even if they'd been able to fabricate it facing the other way, with the far right edge at the wall against the other edge, it looks like there isn't much veining and it would match the larger piece at the seam much better. Hope they can do better.

Thanks everyone. It was fully cured when I took the photo.
Fingers crossed it looks better after they redo it.

It looks like the smaller piece was cut out in a different direction, so the pattern looks a lot different than your main counter. Could you post a picture of the whole counter.

Ok I’ll get a picture of all of it. The counter person came out and did say that the seam is not acceptable and yes, the pattern was flipped wrong. They have another piece they will seam in that will hopefully work out better. Pattern is much closer. Veining will be the same direction at least.
