what kind of dining table should I put in front of this large window?!

What shape dining table should I put in front of this beautiful arched window? I can’t choose between a wooden rectangular table or a marble oval table. Help! As reference I have uploaded the dining chairs I have purchased and the two tables I am choosing between.

What does the side of the room look like with the sofa in it? Maybe someone can do a mock up with each table in that space and you can see what you think.

the crystal one is pottery barn, the others you can find all over. for some cost savings, try Lampsplusopenbox. great deals. https://www.lampsplusopenbox.com/chandeliers-category/island-usage/search.htm this one is nice too. 75watts for each bulb. that should be decent light for the island area they have this one too. not bad at $367. I would not do a symmetrical arrangement as you have in your image - instead, I'd work with the slant of the ceiling. Place a tall lamp on the left, a piece of art on the wall to the middle/right side of the buffet (slightly lower than the lamp), and then place a plant or something in front of the art on the right side. It should form symmetry with the ceiling, not the buffet.

Congratulations on your beautiful new home! It might look very nice, but understated, to have a large wooden box planter at the far right end from the entry door, with the wood a decent match to either your front door, or your columns. You could consider a small tree-like shrub to grow in the box there over the next several years, something like the "Little Ollie" which is a dwarf type of non-fruiting (i.e. no mess!) olive bush. It gets about 6 feet tall at maturity so it wouldn't outgrow the space, and the silvery undersides of the green leaves would be so nice with the gray in your stone and siding. The second thing you could consider is a complementary piece of outdoor sculpture to put under the window. Just keep your eyes out for the next year or two until you see something that is meaningful, either for your personal heritage, or a special regional theme of the area of your new home. The image of a nice piece of low-format art in front of the window, and a large but quiet container tree at the end of the porch seems simple but inviting to me.

Yes, I agree nothing should be in front of that window! It really looks like there’s enough space between bench & china cab. I wouldn’t push the buffet any closer to corner either. Since you are adding another chandelier, why not slide table toward bay window so table is centered in the full length of room. This will eliminate the crowded feeling between end chair when table leaf extended. I would then also consider swapping positions of buffet & china - even though they have same sized footprint, the china is bulkier & might add to tight feeling behind bench. The buffet would also IMO be prettier to see from front door & that other room. You can easily test out this arrangement by moving furniture before installing new lights. Well, maybe not so easy as you’ll have to unload those pieces before moving! BTW, interesting table centerpiece! Surprised kitty doesn’t favor bench at window! 😉

Look to your furniture and decorating style to decide what to buy. First determine the best shape. For me that would be a nice round table. The decide if you want to go classic, pedestal or sabre legs, or modern. I would choose a wooden table with modern lines, like this one, in a richer, deeper tone. La Rotunda, Pantheon version, by Mario Bellini at Cassina. There are plenty of knock offs of this classic.

PS I love how you broke up the gray with the red Persian. I would consider adding some of that deep red and a touch of gold in the living room as well. Either a rug, throw pillows, art, ceramics. You have chosen a beautiful warm gray and done it so well. Brava.
