Comments (23)decor, I recently bought a small cabinet to hang on the wall, and it had that Federal molding on top ,which I didn't care for. I removed it, spent $5 on new moulding, had a contractor friend cut it because I could not get the angles right myself, painted them and attached it. What a difference! Yours would be even easier because the corners are right angles, so all you have to do is a simple 45-degree chop. If you add bead board to the inside of the upper part, though, I would probably add it to all three sides, in which case you would also have to cut 45-degree angles for the corners, but 45-degrees is an easy cut. You need a mitre saw, though. Those two things are very easy changes which would make a very big difference in the hutch and make it much more amenable to a coastal theme and feel in the room....See MoreHelp me with my 1917 Tudor exterior!
Comments (7)Color challenge! Tudors are notoriously difficult & best left relatively traditional. I would repaint the stucco, eliminate the gold tone, choose a color that blends with the stone. Keep the brown, it could be tweaked slightly. Paint first & then judge the brick on stone area. if it's still bugging you, you could paint the brick a color that blends with the stone. I would probably avoid the huge change of roofline, but it's up to you....See MoreSpanish colonial - help me update my (too dark) bedroom
Comments (5)deegw -- I kept looking at that picture of my room from your reply, and coudn't figure out where or when I moved that rug (my photos are from different years and there's been a variety of rugs in there. ) Then I realized you photoshopped it in -- cool trick. You make a good point, about adding color back in, too. But do you think that just painting the back wall white will be enough to lighten the room? I feel I still have to deal with the dark cabinets in the dark side of the room. loobab - thanks for the tips about size of painting related to to wall. Yes, it's my utilitarian makeup table and it's grown unwieldy over time. In reality, I hate clutter. I need a vanity with storage and much better lighting, and a curvy mirror sounds perfect. The space there is narrow. Probably one of those little backless chairs that can slide completely below the table when not in use....See MoreRelated Professionals
