Remodeling Design Dilemma Bathrooms

We are finishing a basement bathroom, and are stuck on what color vanity and sink top would look best. Floors are dark wood grained tile, bathtub is white, shower surround is faux white carrera marble, and walls are a light greige (though they look darker in the pic). I think a dark vanity will make the bathroom look smaller, but am concerned that white will look grubby with 3 small children. Help us decide!

Are you keeping the wood trim and are you keeping the wall color?

IMO I'd go for white trim, because the wood trim is highlighting the faux wood, and a cooler paint color to compliment the marble tile. The beige is making it look dark and making the tub stick out and not in a good way.

I'd go for a countertop that is also a marble look. For the vanity, since it's a kids bathroom why not do a color like a dark green or blue?

Thanks! The trim laying on the floor is unfinished. We had originally planned to stain trim to match the floors and the rest of the basement, but then decided to wait until we had decided on a vanity before we chose a trim color. The walls are honestly not as dark and beige as the pic shows. The room is dark as we have not yet installed any vanity lighting. The bathroom will not be a kids bathroom per se, just a basement bathroom, but small children will be using it when downstairs

am curious about the towel ring location. I have a similar layout, and the "obvious" spot seems to be as AJCN suggested, but ti's so near the outlet that I wonder about that. I guess it's not a concern.? In my instance there is a tad more space on either wall. Color wise I have similar flooring and have been strongly considering SW Sea Salt which is similar to watery. I think those colors are nice, but I think the lighter ones considering the dark vanity would work better. In our guest bath which has white flooring and white tiles/tub, I think I really like the Really Teal and the Lagoon. (but we have no windows there just the vanity lighting).

IMO the layout is part of the problem and we need a to scale floor plan to really help.How much money do you have to spend. Start with the lighting get some good fixtures with LEDs in 4000K also the pot lights cajnged to the same LEDs that will at least modernize the lighting. I dislikrejacuzzi type tubs and it looks like you have a small walkin closet . I would wait until you can redo the layout, do you need a tub , would you like a bigger shower I think a complete gut and redo would be a huge improvement and also good ROI when you go to sell.

I would deepen the shower where it stands. Use the little bump-out in the tub space by building a 4 ft high wall even with the regular wall and then be able to use that new wall depth to put in a ledge (in lieu of a niche) at the 4 ft height and a toe-rest for shaving indented into the new wall at the proper toe-ret height. To get storage, get a trough sink with two faucets, leave plenty of counter space on either end, and use 2 ft of your enormous vanity to build a linen closet. If you think you need more places to put things down while getting ready, put a ledge just above the faucets. I will go look for a photo to show you what I mean. Holy cow! The iPad app now lets me make links, just like the regular computer app always has. When did that happen?

I think you have a ton of compounding problems. Looks like the tile is probably mesh-mounted and not well-spaced--common in less expensive tile lines--but tilesetter should have caught that and reset the misplaced tiles. Also looks like this is marble tile (?) but has been set in gray thinset, which isn't great--that will show through the tile so that it is darker than you likely intended. And yes, the drain cut is pretty sloppy. (Agreed on using a square drain if you can--our tile guy was relatively skilled and the round cut still isn't perfect at the edges since our tile is 1" hex; wish I'd used square since we just picked round somewhat at random, needing to make a decision.) Not sure any of this is fixable without starting over, unfortunately.

I am just seeing this, so you probably already decided, but I would do white cabinets or a very lightly tinted grey. But I like white the best.
