Well, right now it's a theoretical kitchen, as it is down to sheetrock, and precious little of that. Some selections I've made - Adel Birch cabinets from Ikea Backsplash will be cream glass subway tile, with a black glass rhomboid tile feature above the cooktop. Countertops will be granite, more exotic, with inky black running through it I hope! There will be a baking center with cherry butcher block and black, open shelves above. The woodwork on the island columns will be painted black or darkest brown. Sink is a stainless apron front from Lavello. Appliances are stainless as well. Floors are wood - will be scraped and stained very dark. Our house is a 1920's cottage style, circa 2000, LOL. I'm trying to go more contemporary without getting away from the overall feel of the house. The kitchen is open to the living room and breakfast area, and also overlooks a wall of windows to the pool. I'm keeping the colors of the kitchen, breakfast, living and patio in black, brown, and naturals down to cream. I hope this gives a good description. Thanks for taking the time to look for me!

Is the island light fixture your only lighting for the room (under cabinet lighting is nice but not room lighting)? If so, you need more than just downlighting or a couple of pendants. The rest of your room will not have enough light if it is all aimed down at the island, especially with shades that contain the light. I have seen a handful of fixtures with both up and down lighting. I think at least one lighting source online lets you search for up and down lighting as one of their filters. I would look to see if you can find something like that or at least with more general lighting.

In my opinion 2 pendants would be better than three for the size of your island, but if you want to stick with three/not change the electric then I would go with something in the same metal (satin nickel) as your chandelier, something not too big, hung at 36" from the countertop. My ceilings are just under 8' and I have a tall husband worried about bumping his head on pendants lol. Our island is 9' long but only 40" wide. We went with clear pendants so visually they weren't intrusive. Played around with how far off the island and found a height that worked for us (my husband).
