The smell of burning paint?
Comments (6)"My neibhor is a long time volunteer firefighter. He came over and said he didn't think it was anything electrical. He suggested we get the dryer vent cleaned out (something we have been meaning to do since we moved in 3 years ago). I made an appointment for Wed. morning, so we'll see if that helps." It is the dryer vent. Your 6 month new dryer can't breathe! That is the same thing that caused the old dryer to crap out! It was a fool's errand to replace the dryer and not even INSPECT the vent. Blocked vents, from lint buildup, are the leading cause of clothes dryer malfunction. About 5% of house fires in the U.S. are caused by a clothes dryer, nearly all due to excess lint buildup. Of all the common causes of house fire, I would argue that the dryer is the least obvious source, to most people. Most people do not clean out their dryer vents. This leads to over 12,000 house fires annually, in the U.S. alone. If everyone remembered to clean out their dryer vent, one time per year, it would cut house fires by nearly 5%. When a dryer starts taking too long to dry: If it can't keep up with the washing machine, it is a lint problem. It is not time for a new dryer!...See MoreW/D clearance in cabinetry?
Comments (2)Wall clearance varies from model to model. You are looking at width only. The part you haven't said anything about is the depth. Most of the newer washers are much deeper than the Speed Queen. The depth on the ATE50 is 28". The depth on the Electrolux wave touch (which seems to be a much liked machine on this website) is 31.5" and requires no additional space around the sides and back but needs 1" between it and any door in front of it....See MoreDryer vent cleaning
Comments (17)I have the same set up as Mcmann, with the vent line in the crawl space. DD put in a solid metal line, so that's good, but my dryer lint trap is just inside the door of the dryer (not in the door) and the filter pushes down into the cavity and I can see that there is still some lint in there. It sounds like a good stiff lint brush will do wonders. I'm also interested in something that attaches to the vacuum, but I think it will have to be flexable to get into the space. Thanks for all the quick responses, I'm headed downstate (2 hours south) to where a lot of stores are on Thursday and will check out some stuff, plus do a little more online looking. Comments (3)Read your installation manual for the max length you can have. Each 90 degree turn adds the equivalent of 5 feet of length. So if you have 2 turns and you think 20 feet is what you have then you really have 30 feet of length, if I remember the calculation correctly. With my dryer, I could run the vent out the side, so I did, and that added another 5 feet because it didn't go straight out the back....See Morepudgeder
