Advice for exterior entry decor

Not sure how to decorate the outside entry of our home. Looking at repainting the door to a dark gray (it’s a very deep purple right now) will change the wreath as well, but we need a few idea that would be a great base that we can just adjust to decorate seasonally. Because we only have space on one side of the door I’m not sure how to make it look nice and balanced still. Please disregard the chicken feed outside the door. TIA (terrible garden is my next project and advice about that is welcome too!)

I'm tempted to paint the door white for a larger entrance look.

If you stand at your front door looking outside, what direction will you face?

Two ceramic pots of same color one large, one medium. -placed to the right of the door

Fill with bulky plastic bottles and chicken wire on top. Add seasonal decorations..

-wrap cage with faux fall leaf garland

- lighted tree topiary.....upside down tomato cages wrap in Christmas lights for year round lighted tree topiaries. Disguise the plastic bottles with a gathered ruffle. Gather burlap or wide 12inch deco mesh (purple, gold, copper, red, pink? (Seasonal colors) , with a wire for a ruffle between the tree and the pot . Secure ruffle to tomato cage.

Yes, paint your door a lighter color (white) or a brighter color (blue) and paint the sidelights and all the trim too. A larger lamp will help to fill up the space. A large potted plant or tree will look good to the right of the door. When the tree gets too big for the pot, plant it in your yard or as a foundation plant.

Okay, I'm asking forgiveness in advance for opinionated comments: In everyday living, exterior stairs get wet, slippery, cold, icy. And, unless exquisitely designed (to be a statement of elegance), they look tacky. Statements of elegance are quite often inconvenient to live with, although one can bask in the initial admiration of visitors. I know that in some areas, exterior stairs are a... neighborhood tradition; a statement of necessity. And all too often, they look it. I think the architect's foyer is rather big, but oh my, the opportunity to make a decorating statement!! OTOH, I suspect 12x14 may be in proportion to the house. The architect needs to bend his brain so that the top of the staircase does not interfere with your views. I do hope someone has realized that an elevator would be of even greater use, especially if anyone breaks a leg, brings in the groceries or hauls out the trash. And if DW wants a traditional entry, an elevator could certainly take one up to the usual doorway.

I think if you leave the angled ceiling white, painting the walls darker won't matter as much. You could also add a piece of vertical trim somewhere to the left of the hanging textile and stop the new paint there. Maybe at the bottom of the stairs that continue to the left? Hard to say without seeing it. What about something like this for lighting? I was looking for something with 3 bulbs and a clear shade. These are both Kichler: I think they now make LED Edison bulbs, too.

Can you photograph the other three faces of the house? They may need help too. Do you want to open up your porch or leave it enclosed? Do you like the blue and white or want to go all white? Landscaping should wait until after the exterior work, as that work is very hard on landscaping. Hardscaping can be done though. I would replace the current walkways. The one to the front should be wider. When you do, consider radiant heat underneath so you never have to shovel or slip on your walks. It's not the expensive part of a new walk. And it's not expensive to run. Consider concrete steps so you can heat them too. Stamped concrete is really nice. https://www.warmzone.com/ Show us your foundation. We found the light gray door didnt have much of an impact and have already replaced the main light with the largest we could find. We have a tall rectangular planter that we bought for this space but we have t elsewhere right now because we wanted to best visualize what we could do with the space. Here’s a closer photo for reference.

Not sure why it’s stuck sideways...
